I'm new to the site, so first I want to thank all the senior members for providing such great info. I was debating between epoxy, VTC and porcelain tile for my garage, and after much deliberation and learning from this site, I think I decided on porcelain tile. Mainly because I don't want the epoxy to peel after a few years from a heavy refrigerator and legs from several Gorilla racks that I have in the garage. Wife and I have a lot of **** collected over the years.
My question for the group is cost. I have about 600 sq ft of garage space and I can get PEI 4 tiles (12x12) from Home Depot for about a $1 a piece, but I don't have that much time doing the install because of work commitment.
I know a handyman who offered to do the install for $2/sq ft, but I pay for all the materials. Is that a reasonable cost? It'll cost about $1K more than if I do the epoxy on my own. I've already cleaned the floor because I was about to apply the epoxy as a DIY project. If I hire him to do the work, is there anything different about laying tile for garage vs. bathrooms? What type of thinset and grout should I get? I'm in California and the weather here is pretty mild and dry. Many thanks for your input and advice.
