Porch lighting help

I have a wrap around porch on my new building and was wondering how I decide how many can lights I should install on it. It's L shaped like the drawing below, and has an 8' ceiling. I was thinking seven lights down the center, evenly spaced, around 6' apart. Should I put them all on the same switch, or split them up?

Any input?

Thanks

Depends on what you are looking for. You didn't indicate what type/wattage so it's impossible to help. There's a big difference between seven 150w spotlights versus seven 4" recessed lights with 25w bulbs etc..If you split them or install dimmers you have more control.....my 2cents

I don't really know what I want out there. I'm not looking to rebuild engines in the dark on the proch, just light it up. Maybe 7 - 6" 65watters?

One suggestion, you may want to move the cans that are closest to the door as far from the door as you think you can tolerate. Lights bring critters and they don't care if the light they go after is the one on your porch or the one they see when you open the door. When we build, we try to place them as far from the door as code will allow.
