I'm going to an auction on the weekend that has a Port-a-cool unit on auction.

I don't know which model it is but the picture looks very similar to this unit:http://www.port-a-cool.com/pac16sfc.htm

My garage is about 24' x 26', 10 foot walls.

Anybody have any experience with these units? I hadn't seen one (in person) before.

I'm considering bidding on it. The auction preview is Friday so I'll be able to get the model number before the auction and do some more research.

Thanks!

Any kind of evaporative cooler is going to add a lot of moisture to the air. We were thinking about using one in a warehouse but decided against it since there are some bare metal machined engine parts in stock. We were afraid the extra moisture would promote rust. Just something to keep in mind.:)

I've sold several of them and they work really well. Of course in Northern Colorado we don't have much humidity. So the humidity it adds isn't bad and the cool air outweighs the humidity. New that unit should sell for ~$1000. So if you could pick it up used for less than $500 you'd have a decent deal. One thing to remember is the cardboard does need replaced eventually and depending on the use it has gotten it may need replaced. Other than that we've never had any problems with the ones we've sold. And we actually use them in our own warehouses.

It's all about your relative humidty. If you have low humidity during the summer months, they'll work great. If you are at all like we are in St. Louis, were summer humidity rarely drops below 65% percent, and is often in the 90% range, then they don't work worth a darn.
