whats the difference between the industrial portable A/C units such as movincool and the residential ones? 10Kbtu movincool is like $2500 and a 10Kbtu residential type is what, $300? I noticed the movincool specs are based on 95F ambient, maybe the residential ones are based on 72F ambient and will cool to 69F ?

how big of an area could 10kbtu of movincool cool based on high 80s outside and maybe 1000w generated heat inside?

I haven't heard much good about the abilities of portable units for the $300. you can get a window unit that should do as good. I have heard of having a window unit on a platform with wheels and when it is needed they just open up the garage door and place the unit under it and fill the gap on the side/sides and go on.

My computer/AV equipment room used to generate a huge amount of heat (I had 6 rack-mount servers plus my all-home AV gear going). I blew through 2 Movincool portable units in 3 years. I finally bit the bullet and had a permanently installed Mitsubishi unit put in.

It is a "Split-system heat pump" model PKA-A18GA. I think the current equivalent is this one:

For the last 4 years it has functioned flawlessly. Totally worth it.

I've since radically reduced the # of computers I'm running (consolidating using virtual machines and putting more stuff "in the cloud"), but the room still needs cooling.
