Portable Compressor Setup for Air Tools...

It's rare I use a compressor.....
My USA made Emglo compressor probably get's fired up every X years for remodels - when the trim, pinner, framing nailer comes out....

I know I should but I never have. I just purge the tank when done and also purge the tank 2X after storage to rid it of any water, contaminents, etc.

Should I be putting this off a small tail off the compressor and then run the long line out ....to the guns

The problem with putting one of those filters close to the compressor and I'm assuming by tail you mean a small piece of rubber or similar air hose is that it doesn't give the air a chance to cool down to seperate the moisture from the compressed air. Ideally you want 25-50' of metal pipe to cool the air before the filter. When the air is compressed it heats up and the moisture is in the air. As the air cools the moisture forms into water and seperates from the air. Then is when you want a filter to catch the water. If you put one of those right next to the compressor using rubber hose(which doesn't cool the air, metal lines act as heat sinks) the moisture is mixed with the air and won't collect in the filter.

Got it. So pointless even if I run it 50' rubber off and put it right before the 3 way manifold ?

I wouldn't say it is totally pointless. It might catch some water. I'm not an expert, just posting what I have read online for running my own lines. I can say it won't hurt, just from my understanding it won't be that effective either.

Not pointless. My water trap/filter that is closest to my compressor, the one just off the tank and before my regulator, gets more water in it than the ones that are further away. A lot more. The water trap/filter design is such that it will wring condensate out of the air stream as it passes through the filter.
