Does such an item exist for DIY rental ?

Obviously towed behind a pickup. Limited to concrete no larger than a person can lift.

Output 1"-2".

The guy across the street got a rock/concrete crusher that attaches to the front of his tractor-a utility size 40 hp model. I watched him crush a bunch of rock one afternoon.

Well there are sledge hammers.
Then you can. Move up to jack hammers.
From there you can get a bobcat with the jackhammer attachment.

Anything more that that will be delivered by a semi

You can also look at no breaking up the concrete but rather cutting it up. Rent a walk behind concrete saw and do some slicing and dicing

Already broken. Some chunks obviously too big. I just wonder if it was reasonable to turn it into fill or if crushed to about 3/4" maybe used as aggregate in new concrete.

You can use crushed concrete as aggregate in new concrete, but you have to be careful about how you use it- CCA is much more porous and less dense than normal mineral aggregate, so the resulting concrete will need a lot more water, and you'll wind up with significantly higher shrinkage and lower strength.

If you were able to get it crushed, you could probably make your money back selling it as fill.

Where are you located? They make small crushers the problem is you would have to size it very small to run it threw the crusher. Also usually not cost effective unless you have a lot of concrete to crush and a place to use the RCA (recycled concrete aggregate) after your process it. Here in NJ for a real portable crusher in the 40+ ton size you will need to spend at least $ 10,000 for a week rental plus transport and then need an excavator and loader so it will cost you at least $20,000 for a week of crushing. We usually on crush if we can reuse the material on site because you can not sell it unless you an approved DEP facility. And you can by RCA for $1-$2 / ton here.

They make small crushers but a block sized lump is about as big as they can take and they are slow so you wouldn't want to run 500 ton through one.
They also make crusher buckets for large tracked excavators, those are even slower.

Batch plants have crushers and sell crushed concrete. Your cheapest option is going to be transport the concrete to them and buy back what you need.Last time I bought it I paid $120 for the transportation and five yards of crushed concrete was free.

Sounds like the right thing to do !

I did find a small one, designed originally for DIY miners. No one would be mining any where near here !
