I sometimes need to drill horizontally or even overhead and the dream of a mag drill is just that ... a dream... I've seen a couple of 'portable drill presses" that would fit the bill but are waaaaaaaay above my budget... something like this

anyone ever tried to fab one of these up ??? the strong arm uses "lift " pressure to push the drill down... which is backasswards... the drill master uses standard 'drill press' downward motion and seems like it's more adaptable...

looking for plans or ideas about fabricating one..

I'd also be pleased to find one of these old jewels and fab to fit

thanks

I did this on my deck rail ~10 years ago....bought a cheap Cman table top DP, lay the bottom of the table on the rail....the hole in the center of the table will (or can) be concentric to the chuck...clamp table to work, drill. There are some glitches to work around but it does work.

I have one and agree... they are terrible.

Eh....if you're in college or in an apartment and don't have much space, they're better than nothing! I used mine to drill all of the holes for a subwoofer box. Spin the table surface backwards and clamp it down, then go slowly.
