I'm trying to find a gas cap for a generator I just picked up

Troy Bilt # 01925 REV 00

7550 W / 13500W

All the replacement caps I find are just that, caps

My cap has a built in fuel level guage

Any ideas?

Many fuel tanks for Out Board boat engines have a very similar fuel gauge.
You might find a suitable solution at an Outboard repair shop

Troy Built would be your obvious source.

Don't ask.
What are the possibilities that a snowmobile gas cap/guage works:

There's a ton of these used on ebay for under $25 and they are also 12" long
To improve your chances see if some of the E-bay ads include dimensions or picture that would allow you to estimate. Maybe you can find a snowmobile to check to see if yours fits.
There is also a chance that if it doesn't fit you may get lucky and be able to swap parts and repair yours. If the old parts aren't too brittle.

After some digging, most all plastic tanks use a standard 2-1/4" threaded neck

I found that a Polaris Indy 400, 1985-1990, Gas Cap with Gauge (2511149) should fit my application

It's the same length and for the 2-1/4" neck

Bought one on Amazon for under $20 shipped. If it doesn't work, its a free return. Brand new part also

  • Fits Polaris models with OEM numbers 2511149 and 2511246
  • Fits Ski-Doo models with OEM number 572-1612-00
12-1/4" long

Should be here Wednesday to confirm fitment

It will be nice to have a fully functional and reliable (and powerful) 7550W / 13500W portable generator

Its a very Troy Bilt with a 501cc Briggs motor, even with a spin on oil filter

I am replacing the spark plug, air filter, oil (going with synthetic), oil filter.

Tires were aired up and hold pressure good.

I then just need to source a good battery for the electric start feature and replace the positive and negative battery cables.

The generator came with a pricey brand new automotive AC Delco Gold battery, but it will not fit inside the battery tray on the frame

Never mind. I see it is too short. Missed the OP's picture showing the ~12" length.

Will this one work? Its what is listed for my Generac Generator with a Briggs Guardian engine if I recall.

IMHO, any 12 Volt Battery will work, smaller ones can be fitted with spacers to hold a smaller battery in a larger battery Box.

Bigger batteries generally can be accommodated with a larger battery box.

Battery cables are available at your local Walmart.

Many times people are sold new batteries when their old one just needed to be recharged. There is more profit in selling a new battery than in charging an old one.

I used to buy cores at a local battery shop, if they turned out to be bad, I sold them as scrap for what I had paid for them.

I was just quoted almost $700 to replace the batteries in my Jeep, I bought an automatic 20A charger that has an AGM setting and put it on, it took 26 hours to fully charge them! I'm hoping they will last a bit, the Jeep only gets driven once a month or so.

I will definitely be adding in a slow and low amp trickle charger

The current automotive battery it came with is fully charged but makes no sense because it won't fit tge frame

I'll keep it as a spare for a project

a lot of those part number cross over brands. I would always start with finding the part number for it and Googleing it. See what else it fits. Glen's sounds interesting.

Unless the pictures are deceiving, I've never seen a vertical shaft generator. At least i don't think I have. Idk
I googled it and yeah I guess so.
Weird looking.

Yeah its a vertical shaft

Kinda different for sure with the larger end saddle tank that sits vertical

I think its a space saving design? This is a large 13,500W with a 501cc Briggs
