I have a Pramac S5000 generator which has a Subaru engine. It is about 10 years old. Previous owner put it up and never used it. Gas was evaporated, carburetor was gummed up. Got all that cleaned up and engine runs fine.

But - it won't generate electricity. I've checked the circuit breakers and all seems fine.

Tried "flashing" it per YouTube videos. No luck.

I'm looking for suggestions, recommendations and prayers.

Thanks.

Awesome! Tell us if this works or not:

Spinning a drill backwards fixes a generator?

he already tried that

see below

Okay, I'll try to be helpful...

Did it allegedly generate power when the previous owner put it away? How did you check the breakers? Do you have any electrical diagrams or spare parts listings for it? If so, is there a relay between the generator and the outlets?

How are you checking for power? Do you have a multimeter? Use a meter to check all the outlets for power.

Thanks for comments.

Generator ran fine for 12 days during hurricane outage. Previous owner put it up with gas in it.

I'm going to check circuits again.

Wondering if brushescare stuck?

Have you looked in the vent side of the head? Theres wireing that can be very close to the turning stator.

You can also ohm out the windings from there.

voltage regulator boards are the second thing it do if reflash doesn't work. I have seen them go bad from setting.

I'd try "flashing the field" directly at the brushes with a 6V battery wired for the correct polarity and see if you get actual AC voltage output before I went with a voltage regulator. While you have the end opened up, I'd take a good look at the slip-rings...JMHO...

Update - generator will produce electricity if I manually raise the RMPs. That is if I throttle the engine up, the generator produces electricity.

So is this a regulator problem or something else.

Thanks.

Check the RPMs/Hz, if it's at 3600=60Hz, I'm assuming it's like a Briggs and Stratton type engine and is putting out 120VAC, it's a governor control problem.

Don't over rev the engine, it can make the rotor strike the stator.

Not a B&S engine.

Suburau engine.

So is the governor an easy fix?
