Correct. Behind the metal cage is the power regulator then the brush assembly

BS-92769GS is the power regulator and its $$$$$$$

I'm going to try to re-flash the generator to see first if I can restore some power manually

Automatic Voltage Regulator. It's what controls your generator output voltage by monitoring and automatically adjusting your field flash voltage.

If you manually flash your brushes and it goes to full field voltage output, it means you're AVR is bad. I'm guessing their Power Regulator (as they call it) is a little dumber than a real AVR.

Got it thanks

I will try a re flash first

Then think about the power regulator.......if I want to go that route

The battery, for the electric start, has been on a 2 amp trickle charge for about 16 hours......I'm not too hopeful but I'll give it another 10 hours

I won't buy a replacement until I look at the generator portion alittle more

I am going to put it back together today and try the drill trick and also a 12V battery trick, to excite and reflash the generator

I believe I have to dig into the generator head to access the two capacitors

Your drawing is the wrong one for the generator you are working on. It is for a brushless generator with caps. If yours has brushes, you won't find any caps.

I've worked on generators previously that had both, brushes and a single capacitor

I know this 10kw model definitely have brushes, since I've replaced them

Well I started the generator and plugged in a drill and tried to reflash. No go

I left the generator running and brought out a 12v boat marine battery. I used an old extension cord and connected the battery and plugged it in the generator outlets. I heard the generator develop a load twice so I disconnected the battery.

I had power for around 30 seconds because it was powering up a 120v shop light.

Then nothing. No power.

There's two circuit boards behind all the plugs and another small circuit board on the generator head that is for the power voltage regulator

I'm wondering if I should try hooking up a 12v power source directly to the brushes

There are lots of good videos on YouTube about small generator repair watch and learn. At least here in the southeast right now is the primetime to buy because of Christmas time and it's not hurricane season, buy now fix and sell in July thru about September.
