I would be afraid of the combination of combustion heaters and flammable fumes.

When I do heat my garage, I use electric heat.

I use propane radiant heaters in my 32x50 shop/barn.
it's far from sealed and insulated, so heating the air doesn't last long.
I use 1 or 2 round radiant heaters pointing at me & my work area or car..
I have a ceiling fan I can run slow to push the heated air back down some from the 13ft ceiling.
I do have a propane salamander if I am underneath a car.. and there's the BIG 100k+ btu units..
but I mostly rely on the radiants..
flexibility in multiple units.
I've recently picked up a 360* radiant unit for when my brother is out there too.

I have the tall rectangular one on wheels.. it's 35k btu.
but we've found that 1 or 2 ~10k btu round tank top ones are more efficient.

I have a fair bit of iron, so I don't run any combustion heaters due to condensation. So, I just dress warm. Around Chicago, there's only about 3 months that need more.

I have two electric heat dish type(radiant). I just point them at the area where I am working.

An electric construction heater on a 30amp circuit will heat up a lot of area and can be used elsewhere if needed. Here, they run under $100 CDN new and are on Craigs List or otherwise for half that.

35k propane bullet heater.

It works VERY well. Instant heat. Get a 100 lb tank, the little gas grille 20 lb tanks only last about 10-12 hours. Added plus is I use it all the time when the power goes out to heat the house. It has no trouble keeping it warm.

I have one of the old type N/G heaters with the ceramics that I converted to propane. I built a dolly with casters so that I can move it around the shop.

I too am looking into what type of temporary/portable heater to get for my 24x30 w/9 ft ceilings. I will be doing body work and possibly some light spraying.

I have a 30x40 outbuilding, with 2x4 framed walls, standard roof with shingles, etc. Walls have standard batt insulation and the attic has blown-in cellulose.

I heat it with two 30k btu propane "Reddy Heater" style heaters. They get the place up to 60 degrees pretty quick. Portable, no venting, very convenient.
