Since all the air pumps are broken at all gas stations here in Fl. , what is the best 12 volt or electric portable tire pump(s)?

I use one I bought at the local Meijer's for around $30. Came in a bag with accessories.
I love it

Cigarette lighter plug.

The cheap on/off switch shorted out so i hard wired it but it's been a hoss and champ for years. Often help folks to air tires in remote places with it.

HF mid range offers the same type IIRC.
This one:

It's identical execpt for for color as mine is red.

Good part is the one I have has a screw in schroeder valve hook-up vs. a lever type, which tend to be fussy or break . The threaded coupling is flawless. winter or summer.

I use it quite a bit for my fleet of cars when I don;t wanna break out the pancake or fill up the portable air pig.

The cheap lighter socket ones are terrible go on a 4x4 accessory site and get one of the high power twin cylinder ones that connect straight to the battery will last a lot longer and work alot quicker and are all metal also warn the winch manufacturer make mounted models with 5 ltr air tank

LOL.

HOW a compressor hooks up to the car should not dictate its performance nor longevity. I run mine via battery clamps and an adaptor at times and it's fine. And it's an all metal body tiny compressor aside from the carry handle.

Plastic body compressors? Yep , I avoid them.

Winch mfgr and 5 litre air tank?
Yowsa.

:)

I was simply describing the compressor and it is relevant as
The crocodile clips and wire are larger than cigarette lighter parts thefore not likely to melt under extended use like the cheap plastic components are liable to

I have the VIAIR 88P and love it. I think they are around $60 on Amazon.

small pancake compressors are sweet for home use!

Yeah, I have one and it sole purpose is to fill tires. The cigarette lighter powered compressors are junk... I wish someone would make a decent unit that can be carried in car, but as far as I know no one does.

I researched this very subject recently and have not bought anything yet, but viair seems to come up repeatedly when looking for "the best." The 88p recommended above looked like a good model, just one caveat, does not come with travel bag so you'll have to improvise a trunk storage solution as it's apparently bigger than the ones that do come with them. It's got a better duty cycle rating than all but the biggest most expensive ones however which is nice. I've been thinking of ditching my donut and carrying a plug kit and one of these instead (BMW E92, factory RFTs so no spare tire well) am thinking I could hide it all under my trunk floor and maybe get my trunk space back? Bonus would be if I could also fit the jack, lug wrench, and wheel chock in there too, not sure if possible though.

If you're crazy enough, make one. I found a factory 12V air pump for load leveling or something that was in a lot of '80's Cadillacs at the junkyard. Spliced on some good rubber hose with a Schrader fitting, hooked up some wire and a good quality cig plug I cut off of something Sony (no idea what it was), and bolted the whole mess to the battery tray from same Caddy as a platform and place to wind up the wire and hose.
Ridiculous project, but probably a more durable compressor than the K mart stuff and better wire, plug, and hose.
Ideally, I would have used lots of hose and short wiring, but I split the distance because I had lots of wire and not all that much hose.

I carry this ryobi one in my truck. I got it at depot for $20 on close out. Not the fastest thing, but gets me 40lbs in my tires. It has a 15ft cord I believe.

I like the Viair 85P. It's big enough to be powerful, but not so big as to gobble up space in the trunk.

$50ish from amazon, $60ish from Griot's but with a lifetime warranty.
Kicks **** compared to the cheap ****. Surprisingly strong.

IIRC, they're supposed to run on a ciggie lighter circuit rated for 15 amps, but in my experience, they blow fuses and I'm trying to get the missus to clamp hers to the battery terminals directly now. (Had to buy a $5 battery clamp/ciggie female adapter on amazon for that.)

I have this one for my trail rigs. It's pretty badass, but larger than your typical 12v compressor. It doesn't come with aligator clips (cheap at any auto parts house), but it needs to be powered straight off the battery or off a 8ga (maybe 10ga?) dedicated line. I got tired of waiting in line for gas station pumps that are slower than molasses. I like it so much that I sometimes use it at home instead of waiting on my bigger compressor to fill.

I bought mine from this guy a couple of years ago, so if the auction ends he will likely have more shortly.

I bought an el cheapo DC one about 10 years ago for like $15. Still have it, and it works great. Nice and small. Sure, it takes like 5 minutes but when you need air in a tire, 5 minutes is not a big deal.

I picked one up from pep boys, master flow

It works well and has lasted me 2 years so far

I've got the same one, keep it under the seat of my truck and it's worked well for the year and a half I've had it. I use it mostly on trailers or coworkers cars. I carry a compressor in all 3 of my regular drivers, and compared to the $9.99 specials in my other cars this one is much quieter and fills a tire up reasonably fast. I don't need them often, but when you do they are a godsend.
