Porter-Cable 162B Router Kit...what am I missing?

Long shot, but here goes. This router set belonged to my grandfather. He bought it in the late 50s and kept EVERYTHING down to the warranty cards and instruction manuals with it. With his passing, I inherited many of his old tools.

Not that I do much woodworking, but I'm going to keep it, along with many of his wrenches, auger sets, and a Craftsman vise he always used around for sentimental reasons.

I am wondering if the kit is missing something though. In the top left of the box, under the small wooden box is an empty space with a metal band/latch like it should hold something there that's not there. Perhaps I need a better picture without anything in there to show you what I'm talking about.

Anyway, I was just wondering if it was just extra storage or if there's a piece of the kit floating around somewhere. Maybe someone who is a little better acquainted with Porter Cable stuff can help me out.

It might have been for the sharpener. I worked with a guy that got that set at an auction, and it included the sharpener for the planer blades. The sharpener attached to the router base and sharpened the blades of the planer. I don't remember how it worked, but that could be what is missing.

Ah, interesting. That's very possible. Thanks!

Wow what a nice machine. Did not even know that existed. I only know of the later planes. Thanks for sharing it, you have a great piece of history there.
