Probably going to pick this up next week. Anyone have any reasons why I shouldn't buy this model? What is the advantage of all these things people mention such as unloader valves, magnetic starters, etc.

On sale for $789... no input?

Fleet Farm has a $1200 compressor with a 5hp (Baldor) motor and a much larger looking pump... rated for the same CFM. It also has a big siemens electrical box on the front which I'm assuming is a magnetic starter. What would the advantages of something like this be for the casual user? Compressor will get used less than 1 hr per week.

I have the smaller Porter Cable compressor from Farm & Fleet. Have had it for about 5 years with no troubles. It does not get a daily workout. If the one you are looking at has the cfm's you need, go for it.

Main thing a heavier duty machine will do is last longer but under light use the PC will last a long time. The rated duty cycle will probably be higher on the more expensive machine which will make it more suitable for things like running a sand blaster, die grinder, DA sander, air drill, or other high cfm tools without overheating. If you know you won't be doing much with these sort of tools the PC would do a good job.

Good to know, this compressor probably won't get used that much so the lighter duty will be fine. Now I just have to go rent some pallet forks for the bobcat :)

I have nothing but trouble with PC air compressors to be honest, stopped selling them maybe you will get lucky. Im pretty sure Delvilbiss makes them for them Im pretty sure. If you have a DeWalt/Porter Cable service center near by Id say buy it if its a good price though. i mainly had issues with the 20 gallon portable units, roofers would buy them cause they where priced good with a well known name, but they would run them hard all day and hook three or four guns up to them and expect them to last forever. Most never made it longer then a couple months, of course they didnt drain water enough either. PC could get different mfgers to make differnt units though. As you may know PC/DeWalt bought Emglo and they may be making that unit, if so it should be a good one
