Porter Cable 8 tool combo worth buying?

My car was recently stolen with most of my power tools still in it. I have been a Ridgid fan, and now all I have left is a ridgid drill and compact battery and no charger. Needless to say I need to get back in the game, but money is tighter than ever right now (Can't afford a $500 Ridgid gen5x kit right now). Whats everyone opinion on Porter Cable. The drill and impact seem well liked, but the other tools have few reviews. Do you guys think this kit is worth a purchase? I would classify myself as an advanced diyer, who uses tools alot. I would definitely use the drill, impact, jig saw, and circular saw. The other tools would probably see sporadic use. Do you guys think this kit is worth a purchase at $350?

yep. decent price. additional batteries, are priced similar to other manufacturers
3 year tool warranty, 2 year battery. i have no experience with p/c cordless.
i do have quite a few corded, of which i have only had the trigger go bad on a jig saw.

Yea for projects and what not, but at the same time I don't want to want to buy what I can afford at the moment, and be unhappy vs waiting and saving up and getting a quality tool that can last a real long time and one that I am happy with. I guess the real question is does Porter Cable make quality stuff. I miss my ridgid stuff, and had some Milwaukee, but I felt Ridgid provides a good bang for buck. Hopefully PC can be the same, but even less $$. It ***** being without tools.

I wish that kit had an impact. I wish all their kits came with 4ah batteries!

Same here along with a few corded PC tools. I can't really say that I have had an issue with a Dewalt, PC or Milwaulkee that I have owned.

If I didn't already have Dewalt 18V stuff and needed to buy some cordless stuff, I'd give that set some serious looking over.

BTW, the reviews on that Lowes page look good.

too bad, HD just had a 24 hour sale on 9 tool Mikwaukee m18 combo set for $599, down from $999 for 24 hours like 2 or 3 days ago. i would suggest watching HD's deal of the day everyday and keeping an eye out. (you could have sold unneeded tools to help recoup money if budget is that tight)

if the PC tools are just for home use, and light handyman stuff im sure they will be fine for quite a while, as long as you dont "force" them to do things they shouldnt be doing.. every tool needs to be worked at its own comfortable pace and as long as you can do that im sure they'd be ok..

dumb question but ill assume your insurance isnt covering theft..

I've been using a pc cordless drill, pc cordless impact, and a Dewalt cordless right angle drill to hang drywall at my 2nd job, I've used the impact literally almost all day had to change batteries once. Run in a lot of screws. I think it's 18v.

I was a Dewalt guy but these impressed me.

I know you asked only about PC but... Look at the Craftsman C3 stuff. I have a bunch of these tools and used them professionally (not hard use just daily in automotive electrical ) and they held up great. I got a great deal on a Makita impact and hammer drill and now use that. But I still use my Craftsman Nextec stuff daily for the smaller stuff. The C3 is now my home kit and still use it quite a bit. My shop is in my home garage now so all my work that can't be done on site is now done here and the Craftsman stuff is used. The Makita stays in the Van.

I've got a PC cordless drill and impact, one of my boys got it for me a couple of years ago. Its been tough as nails so far for farm residential use, much better than my Dealt 12 volt set, I've also got Makita cordless 18v which is comparable.

Thats what I really want, just can't swing $500 right now. I just saw real tools review youtube review of the new ridgid brushless drill. It looks very competitive with makita and milwaukee. They have the hammer drill and impact with 2 4ah batteries for $280. I'll probably get that, and build my collection back up slowly as budget allows.

It seems the drill and impact are good. Its the other tools that got me concerned. I dont want to buy an 8 tool kit, and only 2 of them a worth a darn. I am interested in the Ryobi/craftman c3 tools, but the kits are full of their lower level stuff. The better tools are only sold as bare tools.
