Will this air compressor be suitable to run a 1/2 inch drive impact wrench for short bursts?
Now I understand I will have to let it build back up,
but I'm just interested in enough use, maybe to take a wheel off or something,
or to break a bolt loose that my mid torque DeWalt will not handle.

Yes it will work. Yes you'll be waiting for it to pump up if you have to hammer on something.

Are you going to use it for other stuff as well?

Usually those compressors aren't good for much more then airing up tires and nailers. I had one that size that wouldn't even top up a tire without having to stop for several minutes at a time. Save the frustration and buy something bigger.
For stuff like changing wheels I go straight for my electric impact.

I’m not sure why that matters, it didn‘t go out of business in the sixties, it was sold to Rockwell in the 60’s, who copied many of the PC designs and continued to produce them through the acquisition by Pentair in the 80’s when the brand was revived along with Delta. In 2000 Pentair added Devilbiss Air Power shortly before being gobbled up by SBD. Like DeWalt, who was purchased by B&D in 1960, the hand power tools were not released under the brand in 1992, it’s just a name.

But back to air compressors. The PC pancake compressor is adequate for nailers, airing up tires, but for much else it’s going to be a exercise in futility. If you read any air impact tool thread, adequate air supply, cfm and max pressure almost always get brought up. I’d suggest being realistic with what you expect if you go this route, and consider a slightly larger compressor like the ones mentioned above. If you really are interested in this one, hold off until Black Friday ads drop. It often comes up with a nail gun or two for not much more cash.

No, I already have it.
Got it reconditioned a while back.
Some say I have to break it in, some say I don't.
(Open the drain, let it run for 15 minutes).
Does anyone know for sure?

I have the same compressor, it is fine as a small compressor but as far as your impact gun... I've used it with an inexpensive Husky impact gun and I get about a 1 second braaap, and then have to wait for it to build up again. So yeah it will do it sort of, but far from ideal.
