Porter Cable cpl6025 regulator problem

Purchased new 9 November 2004. After the tank fills, I adjust the pressure to the air tool by pulling back on the regulator knob. Turn clockwise to increase pressure to air tool. Turn counterclockwise to decrease pressure.
Today when I pull the knob out, the knob will not turn either way. Removed the regulator and tried turning the knob without success. According to you tube videos there may be a spring inside the regulator. Did not see a spring fall out. I did find a spring in my parts tray but not sure if this is the correct one.
Used the compressor a few weeks ago without any problem. The regulator is discontinued but I did see some regulator kits on line. Any help would be appreciated.label 1.JPGcontrol knob in place.JPGcontrol knob 1.JPGinside control knob.JPGregulator inside 1.JPGcontrol knob.JPGspring 2.JPGspring 1.JPGspring 3.JPG

pics are not very good, but, that looks like a spring that would be used in the regulator. so you had it apart & when you put it back together it started giving you the trouble?

Sorry about the. pictures of the spring. I will post new pictures.
I used the compressor a few weeks ago. No problems. Today I started it up. Once the tank was filled, I may have turned the knob counter clockwise without pulling back on the knob to unlock it. So the regulator came off. Did not notice any spring fall out. So I screwed the regulator back in. Pulled out the knob but it would not turn so no way to supply air to the tools. Found that spring in my parts tray. Put it in but knob does not turn. Even with regulator removed knob will not turn. Pictures of spring to follow. Thanks.spring 14 inch.JPGspring 58 inch.JPGspring 78 incn.JPG

Its a cheap chinese regulator that lasted 17-1/2 years.
Replace with another cheap chinese regulator and carry on.
Paid $600.00 in 2004. Makes more sense to replace regulator part number D27255. Actually chasnged the regulator on 7 may 2004.

So I posted the new pictures of the spring which I suspect is not the right one. Looks more like brake shoe hardware. Checked my owner manual where I had noted that original regulator part d27255 was changed on May 7 2008. Will check ebay.com. Thanks.

Exactly saw you tube video where they removed the plug on the backside to install new kit with spring. Then saw another Porter Cable where spring was on the front side. They were pancake compressors. Not able to find one for the cpl6025.
With the removed regulator in my hand, I am able to pull back the knob to unlocked position.
But absolutely no movement in either direction.
Thanks.

Any regulator with your required spring range and pipe connection size will work. There is nothing special about that regulator that another won’t work.
I personally don’t use regulators as valves, just leave it set. Maybe add a valve upstream? Or remove the regulator and screw the air hose connector right into the manifold.

the spring would be on the backside of the regulator, so it's not your issue. does the adjusting knob turn whem it's out of the housing?
Yes it turns but only when I disassemble and remove spring, disc and shaft as per pictures.

Thanks to all. Purchased Rolair REG 0250M made in Taiwan regulator for $32 including taxes from local tool store.
So now my 2004 America assembled from Taiwan parts air compressor should outlast me.
