Porter Cable lock mortise cutter

Going through Dad’s tools, found something I couldn’t identify (that also isn’t a saw set). Google says it’s a mortice cutter for the door.




The four straight sides are sharp. So, bore the hole for the lock, insert tool, and smack with hammer to cut the mortise. Clean out with chisel.

I don’t recall Dad ever replacing a door, or having a need to cut one. So no idea why he had this. Also no idea what I’m going to do with it.

they are great tools to have. pretty much obsolete these days . I have a few of them & they were used literally thousands of times.
