When Black & Decker took over Porter Cable, among other things they discontinued the Model 100, 7/8 hp router. I have a Model 9100 (same tool with a stainless top) that is my go to router, as well as a 690 in a plunge base. Sadly the 9100 is also my son's favourite router, and it's not uncommon for me to have to borrow it back. It's the perfect size for one handed operation.

Anyone else have a favourite tool that some genius at the manufacturer chose to discontinued making for no apparent reason?

Yes, I liked the 100, I had one I wish I hadn't sold years ago. Porter Cable also phased out a cool little worm drive saw circular saw that took a 4 1/2"-5" blade. Luckly I still have it. The PC Speed Block sander seems to have gone by the wayside as well.

porter cable back in the day made some very nice wood working tools, I miss the vintage belt sander models. sadly I never get smart out of all the bean counters dropping models, moving productions, selling out to other countries, selling to other companies...etc.

I guess it makes the stock holders happy but at what expense down the line?
