Hi.

Does anyone have a Porter-Cable profile sander , if so how does it work ?

I see the kit at the swap meet for sale at less than $50 sometimes ,

Anyway I need to sand the primer on old cars before going to the paint shop and was wondering if this would help get into corners that are hard to reach ?

And the 2nd question is has anyone 3D printed new profile blades to match the work you are doing ?

and i guess the same question if I bought the more expensive Fein sander ?

Thanks for your ideas

I have one, it is not a competitor to Fein OMT but it works as advertised. It is slow, but the rubber fingers you wrap with self adhesive sandpaper can be a lifesaver for odd jobs. Honestly, it 1/4 as useful as a Fein or other OMT with a sanding pad for restoration work. The only reason I still own the PC is that no one will buy it for more than $20 and my kit is like new and I’d rather keep it than send it down the road for cheap.

I have one and it's just about worthless, at least for woodworking. There is so little paper that contacts the wood that it wears fast and doesn't make much progress fast. I would be surprised if you could get $50.00 for it used.

I agree with toolmiser, I also had one and I think I gave it away. Its kinda like fishing lures, they are made to catch fisherman which same as that sander which it caught me. The concept is good but the amount of paper that each profile takes is so small. But offer seller 20.00 if he takes it you only be out 20.00, maybe find a need for it somewhere's

Ummmm, OK , maybe I will wait for the $20 one , it just need to have the profiles , then I can see if 3D printing will work for printing extra profiles .

Sometimes we spend more time trying to modify a tool you "think" will be a timesaver !

I had to have one when they came out. The basic diamond shaped pad works well on flat surfaces, and the dust collection works pretty well. The profile finger things don’t work worth a damn.

I don't think you'd be able to 3d print new profiles. Most of the prints I do, the plastic wouldn't hold up to the vibrations of the tool in that way.
