Recently got an old Porter Cable T-33 Belt Sander - Going through it and need to know what (if any) carbon brushes are currently available that will fit it. I've had it running, but am replacing cord, on-off switch and repairing some wiring. The existing brushes are shot. Any part number and source would be appreciated. Also need to know what oil is supposed to be used in this tool - 30 or 90wt - or???

Thank you!

I had a similar problem with a different Porter Cable belt sander. Brushes not available. I looked at the pictures off Amazon that looked like the closest thing and made them work. If I remember right they were all too short, meaning the springs and wire lengths. I ended up getting the same brush and spring assembly and stacking it in the brush chamber since the brushes were so deep from the access cap.
Make sense? Probably not but what I did has worked well for a long time.

Brushes are really easy to file down, just find some that are a little larger, find a local hardware store that's been there a while and they'll have a drawer full of brushes.

Motor brushes IMHO are pretty basic, trim them to fit and for practical purposes are pretty generic. A vacuum cleaner shop should be able to fix you up.

Ace hardware stores usually have an assortment of motor brushes in their hardware section, if you can find some that are close in shape to the original they can be filed down to match.

Eurton or file down some that are oversized. Before I moved, I still had a bag of 300-400 brushes that were mostly Milwaukee but could be easily fit to just about anything close with a file. As far as the gear oil, I would go with Skil worm drive oil as the brass worm wheel needs the right protection to keep the steel worm from eating it up.
