I bought a Porter Cable impact a few years ago. Back then, they seemed to be available everywhere. Now they are like ghosts. Is this still a brand I should search out (i REALLY like it), or do I need to switch to red or yellow?

I'd switch. Dewalt has more woodworking related tools and Milwaukee more metalworking. I have dewalt tools myself

Porter Cable seems to be treated like the red headed stepson by Stanley Black & Decker. (SBD) They were essentially left out in the cold after SBD bought Craftsman. I have a friend who works for SBD at their HQ in Towson and he has no clue what they are up to here.

I have an old dead NiCd Porter Cable drill, it served me well like Porter Cable itself RIP

You can find PC tools pretty cheap on CL and OfferUp. I wouldn't go out of my way or spend a lot of money on them. You'd be better off with DeWalt, Makita, Milwaukee, Ryobi as the selection of tools is a lot greater. PC might be shoved aside for the Craftsman line?

But if your PC stuff is working well, no need to dump it. Use until it breaks. Nothing wrong with being in 2 platforms. I am in Makita for my main tools (drills, saws) and Ryobi for the less critical stuff (jobsite radio, lanterns, flashlights, tire inflator). Also got a couple of Ryobi drills, so if I am working with a friend/relative we can both run screws at the same time.

Once you have a couple of batteries and a charger in a platform it's cheap to add bare tools. Or buy a kit with the tool(s), batteries, charger and then add bare tools.

Cordless. I also like their corded, but my issue is that I bought the cordless and now wanted more.

Honestly, same goes with every manufacture except Ryobi. You can invest all you want, but there is no guarantee that the design won't change and your tools/batteries will not be compatible.

I have plenty of PC tools - corded and cordless. I find them completely reliable. Unless I start seeing otherwise, PC is my go to brand.

Some of the really old (30+ years) corded Craftsman Professional/Industrial hand power tools were made by Porter Cable. Good stuff ! (Not to be confused with the NON-Professional/Industrial hand power tools which are questionable at best.)

Don't play around with half assed places to buy tools Farm Stores Amazon etc. even Home Depot Both CPO online and ACME Tool have a wide selection of Porter Cable CORDLESS. Sure maybe not as extensive as Makita or Milwaukee but normally they are not aimed at the pro tradesman much any more anyways though the old corded stuff is still there out there too.

Tools including heavy duty impact wrench, cordless finish nailer, and stapler, saws, sanders, grinders, shop vac, lights and radio. Even a 20v tile saw
