I have been looking to add a jointer to my tool collection and ran across a Porter No. 350 6" jointer. It appears to be in good condition, fairly original. No idea year of manufacture. Owner of the jointer says he still uses it regularly and recently had the blades sharpened. The price is good, less than what I could buy a new Chinesium one for.

Anyone know anything about these old Porter's? Can't find much on Google.

Also, what should I look for assessing it? I am more of a metal fabrication type, minimal wood working skill. No experience with a jointer.

Generally old porters are well regarded

I have a powermatic model 50 that I’d like to sell. Probably from the 50’s or early 60’s. Motor from the 80’s, magnetic starter - currently wired for 240 single phase. Fabricated mobile base. I realize you aren’t exactly in the neighborhood, but you never know.

I’d keep it, but I don’t have the room after buying an 8” jointer.

I went over and looked at the machine today. It is in good condition. Agreed to $200. Going to pick it up on Friday. Guy seemed solid, said it runs good (fired it up and it runs smooth). I just need to learn how to use the machine now. It's about 600 lbs or so. I have a 16' car trailer I am going to haul it home on. He has an engine hoist to put it on the trailer. I have an engine hoist to unload it. My concern is how to rig it (qualified rigger in shipyard), not sure best way to sling it. Also not sure best way to strap it to the trailer.
