Porto Power press retraction question

Only have a pic laying on the ground moving and in a bucket. The knob seems stiff but the cylinder does extend when pumped.

Vertical in a standard hydraulic press configuration is there anything to make it retract? Should it retract on its own?

Considering the age is it due for a rebuild kit? The pump is a P76 with an Axxx serial number. There's no number on the cylinder.

RTM, Thanks. Spring internal to the ram. Hadn't considered that. Maybe it's slow and will leave overnight.

I'd like to find the model number to order the right rebuild kit.

Searched online and here's a nicer pic of what it looks like together. Doesn't replace the 25 ton Dake in the garage, but would be nice in the basement for small things.

Make sure the hose connection at the ram is tight. If the hose is not tight, the pressure from the pump will extend the ram but the spring does not have enough force to return the fluid.

Thought some of you might want to see this cart I restored. Found it at a swap meet last spring. I was able to find an advertisement for it on the web and according to the ad it was built in 1939 as close as I can figure. It came with a bunch of attachments too. Hopes this works. First...

Piston never moved so I was tried and was able to push it by hand in. Took way more force than I expected.

There's nothing leaking so not sure I have a connection problem.

Cleaned more and the cylinder is an R159 so since I know what I have might order rebuild kits for both, though usually do that when leaking.

Older, and especially smaller rams, like 4T, usually didn't have a return spring. Get up to 10T and you start to see that.

There is a spring in the ram. You unhook it after removing the coupler.
