So I'm looking at Porvene and Clopay sectional, insulated and motorized for my 12X14 doors (2 of them).

Does anyone have any preference or pros/cons on one vs. the other.

I have Clopay doors 9x8 I think it's their Coachman collection with an applied craftsmen style trim on the face. The doors are 2" thick polyurethane filled with metal front and back. The doors are about 10 years old holding up well. The doors get South/West sun so I was concerned about the PVC trim holding up, after 10 years still looks pretty good.
Main complaint was cost I think I paid $4,000 - 4,500 for 2 doors 9x8, and I think I bought the openers. Still can't believe I paid that much, but it was the look I wanted and wind rated because we get 70+ mph winds on that side. My shop doors are 12' x 14' polyurethane 2" thick wind rated to 110mph and only cost 2500 for two.

I installed 4 10x12 insulated Clopay doors in my shop about 6 months ago, so not really any long term experience yet, but installation was a breeze, all accessories/bolts/etc. were of good quality and so far I am very happy with them!

If you don’t mind me asking, how much you paid for them?

Provene is a 'local' door manufacture vs Clopay being a 'national' manufacturer....

You're probably not going to get a lot of feedback on Provene, unless someone local to you chimes in.....

We JUST - couple of weeks ago installed a pair of Clopay doors - from their Classic Premium collection. Cost was $1500 installed, used existing tracks & openers, replaced all rollers, springs, etc...

From what I can tell, most doors seem to be very similar, cost differential is due to marketing costs and add-ons...

That makes sense. From the comments so far probably cant go wrong with Clopay.

Thanks for the feedback!

I have two 9x9 clopays on my house garage for the last 7 years and three on my shop for the last 2 years.

They look identical to each other.

That's a lot of sun, snow and ice and they still look brand new.

I am in the process of building a new house and the overhead door installer uses CHI doors. This may be another manufacture to look into for a quality door. Home depot sells clopay, you can build and price online, so you have a reference price point if you want.

Yes, porvene was sold years ago, and the same door is sold widely but under different names. As I recall

I have bought a few porvene roll ups. Fine doors. One insulated.

I had an insulated steel Clopay door on my old house. It was well built, and I had no issues with it. I had it for at least 15 years.

My only problem was the installer. He was a Clopay installer. He put hundreds of staples on the molding. When the door first opened and closed it took off a bunch of paint. To Clopay's credit they replaced the entire door without any issues.

I have Ideal doors, that are the same as Clopay(They own the name). I have been very happy with them, the one window cracked the first year, but they took care of me.

I would pick Clopay over Porvene (used to sell Porvene), and most definitely steer clear of CHI, they would be my bottom of the barrel pick

What makes CHI Bottom of the barrel. My neighbors shops one has clopay 524 vinyl backed and the other has CHI same vinyl backed. The CHI had nicer rollers and overall better construction IMO. Both doors were about 5 years old.

Hormann garage doors. I learned from the guys here on GJ, had one installed and love it. Quite, insulated, kept my garage warm in the winter and now much cooler in the summer.
