Positioning lifts in garage

I was the lucky recipient of a two post lift from my wife for Christmas (awesome!) and am looking for some advice on my shop layout.

Here is a breakdown of the garage:

Original 3 car garage (low ceiling) with tandem 2 car to the left of it:

The tandem part was limited to one door due to HOA regulations.

To the left of that is a one car (two deep) that has been enclosed:

Right now I have two 4 post lifts in the back portion of the add on. The back of the carport (as well as the side barn doors) opens to be able to back the cars in the grass and through the add on portion of the garage.

My initial thought is to put the two 4 post lifts on the carport tandem since they are mostly used for storage. That would allow me to mount the two post where one of the 4 post lifts are now.

I figured this would make it feel more open and have better light in the work area.

Thoughts? Suggestions???

Is the concrete good in all bays, or would you need to pour footings? I would say the 2 car expansion, as it seems that you already have the height.

Could you stack the 4 post in a row and drive through the first to park on the second? Some sort of bridge would be needed, but should be simple enough.

The concrete should be good all through the newer parts. When we built it we knew that it needed to be strong enough for multiple lifts.

My thinking for putting the 4 posts on the patio area is that they are pretty much used for storage only and I was surprised how much light went away when I put them in there.

I am really struggling on this decision....

I'll have to check out that forum!

Thanks for the advice!

That makes sense for the 4 post. But for the 2 post you are gonna want plenty of clearance on the sides, right? The 2 bay seems a bit small for that.

I would think about the left single bay. Will the permanent posts interfere with anything there?

where ever you decide, just be sure its as centered and in front of the garage door, not having to "jockey' the vehicle to get it positioned in the lift area is a "good thing". Of all the decisions on lift placement for me the most important one is the straight shot from the entrance to the lifting position.

I would say either where the yellow car is (sorry don't know my pontiacs good enough) or center bay in single story area.

Thanks! My dad and I have been collecting Pontiacs for quite a while. The 69 is fake but we have all of the anniversary editions (10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th).

I would like to put the 2 post in the old portion but the ceiling isn't high enough for me to store a car under it. I have a 72 firebird and 73 Blazer that are both getting painted. I would like to store everything inside if possible and will need the space.

I just can't decide - every scenario I come up with it seems like there are equal pro's/cons.

Eventually I would like to cut out the back of the old portion and make that area two deep but that is several years away.

Finally got the lift installed this weekend. The guys had it put together in a few hours- well worth h the $$$. Didn't seem like something I could do and I didn't want to take any chances. I ended up mounting the motor on the wall to save some room but other than that it fit great:
