Possible 40x80 heating options

So I’m looking to buy a house that is more rural is has less than 2 acres but it has an already built 40x80 pole building with big barn doors at each end. Its metal siding with gable trusses. Right now it has gravel floors water and 220volt service. I could take advantage of the lack of floors and to radiant heat. I’m concerned about the two big doors and how much the concrete is going to cost. My 32x26 shop right now is attached to the hose is way too small but my 80,000 btu gas heater can keep it 55 degrees all winter long and only cost me about $10.

I want to have an auto shop/fab area and a wood shop. So I guess I could partition it off but for now I would like to heat it just enough to keep stuff from rusting and make so I can use it without waiting 4 hours to heat up.

Really? By those numbers, the new one is almost 4 times the size of the garage you now have. Change out the barn doors and you can heat it for $40 all winter......if ya live in South America.

it might be more like 8 or 10 time since my old place only has 9 foot ceilings and this new one has 20 ft side walls

Too little information !!! Been on GJ for several years surely you know that LOCATION matters to how you would heat/insulate a building.

Update GJ Profile with City / State / Country.

Finishing out that large pole barn to fully insulated/sheathed with proper insulated doors will be $$$$$ so start getting quotes and plan accordingly.

Good luck with decision. Quick and cheap heat in "leaky" building is torpedo propane or kerosene heater.

Personally I like radiant tube heaters

I hope you have natural gas available ! Radiant (in floor) is the most COMFORTABLE heat you can get. It does NOT raise the ambient temperature quickly. Big doors are a problem with cold gusts cooling off the area.

The best would be a radiant floor and tube heater a few feet behind the doors.

Does the building have any insulation in it? You could put 2 of your old buildings in there and still have space left. I believe I would partition it into 2 maybe 3 areas and insulate them well. You could have zoned heating there by only heating what you will use. You could have an area for mechanics and fab, another for wood working, and another (uninsulated and unheated for cold weather storage (think mower, tractor, implements, boat, I think you get the picture). This area could also be seperated thermally from the other slab and use radiant in the others. This way you would really only. Heat the area you'd be working in. Use wireless t stat controls and turn it up or down from your phone at work. Money is the only question.
