Hello,

Wondering what you all think about the attached picture (used 26G Husky).

They are asking $100 for it.

Seems to be....well used...but that shouldn't matter much.

I've been eying the 30G Kobalt (no way to get 220V in this location) but this comes in about 1/4 of the price which is hard to pass up.

Any thoughts??

Dear sir, (and IMHO)

Anything that is for sale is worth something, even if it is worth(less).

How old is the machine, what are the specs, and why is it up for grabs ?

Husky is the HD Bigbox brand, and COO is, I believe, China, though I may be

wrong. I know you couldn't buy the parts for $100, even used, so what you

need to do, if you want to pursue this purchase is, and before you put it

on your truck: Sizing...Will this machine do what you want it to ?

Electrical...obviously you are unaware that 220v can be put anywhere it is

needed, sometimes with a bit more effort, but always possible.

What kind of shape is the machine in... bearing noise, pressure switch

operation, psi developed by compressor, oil leaks, physical condition of the

compressor itself (valves) and of course take into account that it looks to

be one of the cheaper models that HD stocks.

OK, we all need to start somewhere, and a C-note won't break anyones'

bank. So if it looks really good, and the seller says: " It won't keep up with

my sandblaster" then take a chance. Otherwise, keep saving yer pennies,

unless you want to inherit someone elses' headache. You may want to

consider how handy you might be at refurbishing a well "used" air system.

Sincerely,

Uncle Bob

Thanks guys.

If I go take a look at it, what should I look for? What are some typical signs of abuse or near failure?

Thanks for the help!

Thanks Uncle Bob for the thoughts..

As an FYI, I am clearly aware of what it takes to install a 220V line as I'm a professional electrical engineer who designs hospitals and operating rooms. Between my panel being full and on the opposite side of the house with a finished basement, I don't feel it worth while. So yes, I am aware.

A key pre-buy test for a used compressor is to drain it, fire it off, adn see how long oit takes to get to shut off, then bleed off air until it comes on again. to see if it has issues with coming on under load.

If all that is OK, and it is large enough for your needs, go for it.

Time how long it takes to fill, knowing the tank size and psi you can determine a WAG CFM rating. Should be around 6.5-7.0 for a 135 psi unit. Anything less and it's worn out. There is a quick formula search Google for " evaluating the diy 120v air compressors". Should be the first link.
