Found these for $2 on this holiday weekend. Any idea who made them? My uneducated guess would be that they are WII era for wire cutting?

Not WWII. WWI and Interwar. Generally, the "U.S." markings on military tools of WWI and the Interwar years had serifs, and WWII was sans-serif. I've got a few of those and they all boast extra large markings.

EDIT: X-posted with Tom.

Not sure who made those, but I have a WWI set made by Kraeuter that are basically the same pattern. The high leverage makes them one of my favorite all-time pliers. AFAIK, this pattern of pliers was one of several types issued to deal with barbed wire.

Tom, Lugz and rlitman,
Thank you for the information and education.
When I search for "WWI pliers" (instead of WWII pliers) I find these and the Kraeuter version - they are very similar with the main difference being that the Kraeuter version does not have the stop pins.

Thanks

Whoever made them, made a crapload. Trench warfare! Yikes. I think I'll go watch 1917 for the umpteenth time.
