So there's a guy on Craigslist with a 1987 puma industrial pph-30-110 air compressor it's a 30 gallon V - twin splash lubricated it says it does 12.9cfm and it is suppose to have a 3hp motor. I haven't been able to find any info on this compressor I found a page of a old manual of it someone posted and here's where my question lies. I don't think the electric motor on it Is original it doesn't have any sort of label on it with hp or voltage or a manufacturer for that matter the guy said. It does have a 30 amp 3 wire plug that runs 220 that's all I know. I question if It's original because the manual had a picture of the motor and it looked like it had fins on it for cooling.

This motor has no fins but maybe they were a removable heat sink. The guy says the compressor runs fine and they use it all the time in there shop. The plaque on the motor plate stand lists it as 3hp. I would go look at it but it's far away and the guy was going to drop it off for a extra 75. So in total 325 which I thought was a good deal being that it's a high cfm 155max psi and is intercooler. I just plan to toss it in my garage to run basic air tools. I got hooked on compressor after just redoing a 1983 sanborn 12 gallon 5.8cfm v-twin.

Yeah I looked at the new ones and northern tool doesn't offer free shipping on the puma brand and there isn't a northern tool in my state. Shipping on a 60 gallon was 165 plus the 650 is for a new one so I'm going used. The older one is prolly built better as it's been running sense 87 so it's stood the test of time and it's a higher psi and a tad more cfm then the newer guys

I just pray that the electric motor is original or a 3hp. So the pump makes It's true 12.9cfm rating. I'll have it this coming Monday. I just picked up a 30 amp dryer style outlet as that's what type of plug is on there. Also got some 10-2 Romex to do a 25 ft run along with a siemens 2 pole double 30 breaker to run it at 220v. The motor doesn't list amps but the guy uses the same setup and it doesn't trip the breaker.
This Will be my first go at wiring a outlet but I know exactly what to do and my buddy is coming to double check my work and make sure it's up to code.
