Possibly splitting the Garage Gallery?

So I don't know how well this will go over, but I had an idea.

First off, I love almost all the builds here, but a lot of these builds aren't really garages, so much as they are entire out buildings/massive pole barns. The price is high, and to be honest I'm not that into them because I cannot afford anything remotely like that, and I generally don't find them that creative or interesting.

But the actual GARAGE builds, I absolutely adore. Jack Olsen's 12 gauge garage is probably what drew half the members to this site in the first place, because it shows what you can do with a smaller space using creativity and planning.

So what if we split the builds up? Maybe two subforums:

- One for gigantic expensive pole buildings, if that is your thing,

- The other for more normal garages, attached or detached, but smaller, and more budget builds

From the titles, it's very hard to separate the two and I'm generally finding a lot more inspiration for my build by looking at the smaller stuff.

Well, I'd at least be in favor of figuring out some way to organize it - it's a 451-and-counting page thread. There's no way the guy on page 151 is gonna get a lot of looks.

I like the idea of somehow spilling it up into something. I know there's been threads about 1 car, 2 car but sometimes the OP quits and doesn't update. In my experience there not a lot of ongoing build threads. Usually, people come here look for ideas, build their place and really don't hear much from them. I once started a thread on " where are they now garages". I really think it was cool idea to see garages couple years after to see how they held up. Let's see them after the place got dirty, cluttered up and lived it alittle and see how the OP dealt with it. Unfortunately, that thread didn't take off.

I wouldn't be for a split. I really like the big builds, the mega expensive, etc., just as much as something like Chris' AKA Ned Norton's that combines the industrial flair and quality with a smaller space.

What could be just as helpful would be including tags to the threads. If we adopted some sort of size differentiation into the Garage Journal culture and included it as a tag or in the title, that would be easy to search or differentiate. Lots of folks put the actual dimensions of the shop but if there was a category for small, medium, large, and XL spaces maybe that would work. I don't know? It's a rough idea...

Just remember that the IDEA seen in a mega-expensive garage is exactly what you may choose to try to replicate in your middle class garage and separating those may make it even more difficult to see some of the really cool ideas seen on Garage Journal.

Ihave seen some wonderfully expensive things that I could never afford but can simply steal and produce myself (or repurpose). The INDEX thread has been fairly helpful too.
