Things seem to be a little slow around here, so let's pick up the pace a bit shall we?

Post a pic of your favorite thing in/about your shop and why? Post one about the least favorite thing and why?

Don't need a pic. Its only 20x30 and filled to the gills. I think that is going to get fixed though. I'mm trying to get an 11 acre plot of land with a 40x60 Atlas red steel pole barn on it. Wish me luck.

My favorite thing today is these Wedge-Bolt blue-tips!
s40.jpg

I will be using them on other things I want bolted to the floor.

My least favorite thing today is my new Dewalt drywall/deck screwdriver.
And all I did today was rake angle (20 screws)!

My favorite is my sink, I love being able to wash tools, hands, paint off stuff, etc without tracking dirt in the house!

I also love my tv!

My least favorite is my floor! Oh well, I am going to epoxy it this spring though!

Great responses guys, keep them coming...

My favorite thing is that now I have a space for a lift. This is my first, and I can't believe I lived this long without one!

My least favorite thing is my "breezeway". It offends my sensibilities. Every time I look at it, it's a testament to government breuacracy/stupidity.

I have the same kinda thing going. In order to build what I had wanted, I had to tie the structure to the house. Which was cool until the town made me move the garage back by seven feet, thus lowering the breezeway. The way I see it you have two options :

1) Raise the breezeway to span each roof.
2) Wait a year or two and lose it altogether.

I think my favorite part of your breezway is the fact at least by that picture that it goes to a window on the house thereby making it pretty much useless as a breezway but was required by the county boneheads in order to have the size garage you wanted and they didnt seem to care that it wasnt actually between 2 doors :D. Just goes to show their stupidity in wanting it in the first place .

Most favorite thing: After 11 years of waiting, getting the shell of my 30x40 barn finished before winter.

Least favorite thing. Waiting until spring in the Frigid North east waiting for weather warm enough to pour concrete for the floor. It's supposed to be a high of 12ºF this weekend

I looks like the breezway is out of line with the window though therefore making it hard to put a door in if you wanted without some major revamping. But it make it easier to put a bathroom in the garage if you want to walk around the garage to get out to the back yard. A small foundation, tie the roof into the walls, tie the pipes to the existing pipes under the house, etc. When the city hands you lemons, make some lemonade!!!

LOL

^ I'd guess it passed "code" since you have to walk over the fan of the air conditioner.

I really like how mine is filled with some good tools and a hand built motorsports car. I dislike the fact that its a real old 24x26 and completely unfinished

Old garage, but new to me.
My least favorite thing is the brick backing in the rear of the garage/shop. There was a very decrepit wood stove there which I got rid of. What should I do with the bricks... keep 'em or get rid of 'em? Q. Would it be useful when I purchase a welder or would I be better off just welding outside of the garage?

If i were you, i would be buying a nice woodburning stove with a catalyst. Youve got the setup already. You could crank up the heat when when your out there on the weekends and save on your utilities.

As far as welding, i would be pretty worried about the white epoxy. I've seen what weld spatter does to epoxy, thats i one of the reasons i dont have it. just imo...

Thanks for the comments. I haven't really looked into putting in another stove, but you have a good point. I had kind of counted it out, but maybe it's time for a little research. The pic was taken in between floor coats and is grayer and not quite as slick as it appears here.

I've been debating with myself about a welding location for a while- no big hurry as I don't have any equipment yet- I can taste it though. If it were in the shop I'd definitely put something down on the floor and close the sides and back off. Outside on the driveway would be preferable, but the flat area is pretty short before it starts down the hill, plus I get a lot of debris from the pine trees- so I have to be careful not to set the place on fire.

There's a photo of the outside in the "test" section.

My favorite thing is my "retirement office" out here where I hang out most of the time, and my least favorite thing is constant below-zero weather and snow that keeps my "toys" trapped in the garage from November 'til April.

I would get a really nice wood stove as I think the brick adds some warmth to the garage.

I'd also consider the woodburner. And the brick gives you a place to set your sunglasses because it's so frickin' bright in there. LOL!!! Looks good!!!

Nice office JohnZ.

The floor here is Rust-oleum. It's just about a Navy-gray in color. I wish the garage was as bright as it appears in the photo, but it's not quite that bright. Once I move the tools, stuff, junk etc. over from the old house the garage will look a bit more normal- plus workbench and cabinets of course. I think I'm going to wait until Fall before I decide on a "wood" stove for sure, although it gets a bit chilly. - A few weeks ago, it was about at freezing all day- ha - but we're in the 40's now- hahahaa. It's primarily a money issue at this point. It's either working on the Jeep or the Garage:headscrat Hmmmm.
I'll post some pics up when I get further along.

I'm having to do the breezeway thing too. Mine will be in the neighborhood of 50' long though and also won't connect to a door. :(

Doug if your even thinking about a wood stove right now and into spring would be the best time to get one as they will be going on sale and you can get a deal on themin the fall they will be right back at full price again .

My most favorite thing is that I have off-street, covered parking. My least favorite thing is that it's not a garage, it's a carport :(

Favorite: Built last july and enjoying first winter with it.

As a kid I always wondered why my parents didn't get an electric opener, they were $99 at sears back then. "Oh they won't work when the lights go out". Uhh, pull the red string? Put openers in both bays and love 'em.

Least favorite: drainage and snow removal, knew it would be an issue but it's a bit worse than expected.

Gravel driveway is a few inches down from concrete slab and slopes gradually away, but the inevitable ice buildup is starting to seep under and stick to the doors.

What's the deal with the breezeway? What does the code say about it?

My garage is detached from the house but I don't have a breezeway.

I like the size of my garage (48x28), but dislike that it only has an 8' ceiling height. Don't know why they didn't make it taller.

It's unfinished, so I don't like that I have to put up the drywall everywhere and do all that mess.

Generally cities have different size and set back restrictions for a attached vs a detached garage. Most likely the size and location of that particular posters garage would not work for a detached garage, thus the breezeway which then makes it a attached garage.

Haha. I thought we were the only family who didn't have a garage door opener. Our door was solid wood, with 2 spent springs. I did get to be very strong lifing up that F@#$#@G door. My dad grew up during the great depression, and we only had one phone. When I hit about 14, we actually got 2 phones and cable TV. We only had about 4 channels on regular TV before that, which I never got to watch anyway cause we only had 1 TV. This is scary, I sound like my grandfather and I'm not even 40 yet. :willy_nil
