Hello everybody this is my first post.
I live in the Somme in France in a house which is a couple of hundred years old. I have found several items left behind in WW1 and WW2. My son found a post leg vise in an old outbuilding and we wondered if anyone could help us to identify it. The handle has been broken off and there is some evidence of welding at the end of the the threaded shaft suggesting it has already been repaired before. We have not found a maker's mark but it is painted pale green. The spike and vertical supports are forged into an octagonal section.
We plan to repair the vise and then to use it with the rest of our tools which we use to repair and rebuild mechanical things, and to rebuild our house. I include a photo and hope somebody has seen one like it before.
Nice to be in touch with you
Regards
Paul
