Why can't you post a new thread in the "Wanted" section unless you have a 100 posts?

I understand, still ***** since I don't post that frequently. Be nice if it could get dropped to 50.

A guy got banned a few days ago for posting 98 posts in one sitting, all one-liners that were an obvious attempt to get to 100. I don't recommend this particular technique.

I does not take THAT long to get 100 posts. I'm sure everyone of us has a 100 thoughts, opinions, ideas or a comment that you can add to a post. Come on.....you can do it!

***** even more if you are the one posting a new member took your money and you got nothing.

Like Simon mentions, it's to keep people from from joining and trying scam our fellow members.

Whether GJ'er like it or now, it's an attempt to protect them.

I'm unaware of a member getting banned for that reason.

I do recall a member trying out one word posts getting banned. Would be some time ago now.

This may be more of an Aussie thing but you stand by your mates so we look out for other members on the GJ. If you participate and enjoy all aspects of the forum 100 posts is soon nothing and you have gained respect, new mates - friends along the way.

You makes rules and somebody finds a way of short cutting the process.
Maybe it is time for a user rating system.

Yeah, figured what the hell. Still feel it doesn't make much sense to have that rule for the wanted section. Isn't everyone there looking to buy something, not take someone else's money? I'm lucky if I have a couple thoughts per week, so yes, it might take a while.

People sell items in different ways. Think of it this way, you want hammer and post up an ad. I reply saying I have the hammer you want. You send me some money and I ship it to you once I get the payment.

If I only have a few posts, it's hard to see what kind of member I am if you read through my posts. If I have plenty of posts and you read through them, you can form an honest opinion and make up your mind if you want to do business with me.

All and all, whether you agree or disagree with it, it's done for the protection of all the members, yourself included.

That's one thing I hate about writing, it really doesn't convey "tone" very well. I understand why the rule is there and am not trying to be an a$$ or start any kind of argument. I just thought that it seems to make more sense for sellers than buyers. Has this place ever had anything like "vendor and product reviews" but restricted solely to member to member transactions? Basically like an E-bay feedback system for Garage Journal users.

Ahhhh......the good old days, when I thought 100 posts was an impossible dream.

Oh my misspent youth!

Soon the counter winds it's thousands out, and your arthritic fingers wail in pain.

But can you stop?...............NO!

You must share your gems of wisdom, your witticisms and droll humor.

You are well on your way......

The "Product and Vendor Review" section is used by other members to give feedback on fellow members after their tranaactions.

If you wish to forgo the 100 posts, you can become an Alliance member. They are exempt for the minimum post counts. See the blur band at the top of the page, click on "The Alliance" to find out more.

Other than that, the rules were set forth by Ryan, the site owner. They are for all to follow. They are not going to get bent for one person because they can't productively contribute to the forum in order use the classified or wanted section.

just be thankful the # of posts is a known. on another forum I am on, they refuse to tell you how many posts you need to attain the special status of being able to buy or sell...some forums seem to really discourage new members. I do like the forums where you can "like" people's posts, and/or get rep points for actual useful posts that help people rather than just cut people down.

Pretty sure I am out of luck with the wisdom and witticisms. Fairly positive I am only in possession of half a wit anyway and it only makes an appearance a few times a year, hence my non productive contributions:p.

Hey!

You're up to 77.

Only 23 left to go...

Find another interesting thread (Or start one), and comment on something, or share your knowledge.

At the rate you are going, you'll be there in 5 days. My rate is lower than yours the last couple of days. As soon as you cross the fence, you'll be telling newbies how easy it is.

Join in on the permanent tool wars...HF Vs. SO. Share some hot deals you have found. Find a topic in Free Parking that interests you, or ask some questions in one of the other categories.

How about you put your location up and tell us about you tool hobby, garage (Or lack thereof) and etc. And photos....We like lots of photos!

Thank you. I'm working on that, figured I'd take some pics to better describe what I am looking for. First I need to find the cable that connects the camera to the computer. I'm not techamalogically savvy enough to own or use a "smart" phone, I prefer one that rides the short bus.

was this a recent change? seems like i remember selling something on here at one point

It's been in place for over an year now. There are stickies at the top of the Classified/Wanted sections.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3820409&postcount=1

EDIT: Making 100 frivolous post in a postwhoring manner just to sell in the classifieds is going to do nothing but get those posts deleted. Be a productive member at GJ and make them count, it's not hard to reach 100 posts.

Just start talking about a rusted old vice that was found inside of grampa's tomb and you will be at 500 posts in no time.
