I have a Thorsen speeder. But it's 3/8" and not that old.

I normally don't grab speeder handles but being I have a bit of Thorsen I thought it would be smart to grab it when I found it.

^ a 62M is about the only Thorsen piece I do not own in 1/4" drive, I think, but I'm not sure I have that box.

I do have an NOS 62J laying around here somewhere that's never been used. (3/8" drive)

Funny enough, I found a 1/4" Thorsen speeder the other day, but it doen't fit my 1420 box. We will see about the one Provincial has. I have the feeling that they are like Plomb, and the bends got changed at some point.

I have never had my eyes on a Plomb, but those Thorsen units I've see in various photos looked awfully damn skinny to me. I do not think it would require much effort to turn one into a pretzel.

There's a set of 3/8" drive 6-point Thorsen metric sockets right now on Ebay for just under $30 bucks, but I did not post them in the "hot deal" thread because the 13mm is missing and the 17mm looks to be trashed. ( HERE ) <-- these are U.S. made.
Thorsen started bringing the Taiwan-made stuff into country in the mid-1980s, but it took them a while to convert over to the 5-digit part numbering system, so LS is most likely closer on vintage with "1990s - 2000s".

^ Interesting. I do not believe I've ever used one, and I don't think I own more than two or three, and they're all 3/8" or 1/2".
I guess I never worried about acquiring any 1/4" speeders because I don't have any 1/4" sets in boxes that long! ;)

That reminds me, I passed on a Giller box full of junk last weekend, if interested, I can grab it for someone, Long and skinny, like four.cycle posted above.

I bought this spinner on eBay because the only related spinner with a blue handle that I'd seen was marked Giller. I should have checked the pictures more carefully because I didn't notice Giller stamped in the handle until it arrived. Looks like they must have grabbed the shaft out of the wrong bin during fabrication.

Don't remember if I ever posted this but... This is my Thorsen tool box that I use as my EDC in one of the vehicles. Had to repair the latch, but it is a really nicely made box that is just the right size for a good general purpose set. I had a much older brown wrinkle SK box with a leather handle that was almost the same size/design, that I gave to a friend.

Thorsen was sourcing their boxes from Huot for a while. That looks like one of them. My Thorsen box was sourced from Huot as well. Here are some pictures of my mixed Giller, Action and Thorsen set with the mixed spinner replacing the Giller marked spinner.IMG_4155.jpgIMG_4157.jpgIMG_4156.jpg

Other than the box layout, I don’t think I can come much closer to my original. I even added a spark plug socket with the original sticker. Most all of the markings on the tools are much more consistent now. I have one missing socket on order. This has been a fun and rewarding project. I texted pictures of the project to my sister in law who is shown sitting next to me in the pictures.

My project to duplicate my Red Box Special from my 15th Christmas is now officially complete.
