Share you father / son projects here.

I'm starting a series of woodworking projects with my son, who is 8. The first project is an arts & crafts wastepaper basket made from quarter sawn white oak. He will learn about safety & how to use a table saw, chop saw, band saw, and an assortment of hand tools.

Starting things off right with shop drawings. Photos to follow. Hoping to make some sawdust tomorrow.

A wastepaper basket!
What a great idea!
Something that can be used forever

I still use my daughter's clay "water glass" project as a pen holder.
(She is over 50)

Very slow progress. Quarter sawn white oak, mortise and tenon joinery. I overestimated my son's interest, but I love woodworking. This is the first of many projects.

I didn't take any progress pictures this round. When I'm more proficient I'll record a project.

Looking good Thundermug,
It's tough to keep a kid's head in the game for any length of time.

A number of years ago I gifted a boat to each of my 3 daughters families for Christmas with the stipulation they had to build it themselves.

Their ages at that time were somewhere between 4 and 12 and it was tricky keeping them engaged.

When I saw them drifting, I would send them into Grandma for baked goods.
I kept the length of the work sessions as short or as long as their little minds could handle.

In the end, it was a huge success with them all being really proud of what they accomplished and me being proud to show them that they can do anything they want.
I believe they will carry the memory for life

Anyhow here's a few pics

Royce

The far side of crazy.. but sometimes Australia
Seven year old wanted a shield. A piece of scrap ally, some copper that came from some LDF7-50 Coax scraps and a few aircraft rivets. Took about an hour to make, and he thought he was just the **** when he took it to school for show and tell. I’ve since made 8 or 9more for his mates for birthday gifts.

Wonderful, I'll bet he was the king of the school yard!

Some awesome stuff in this thread so far! I look forward to my girls working in the garage with me, but right now the best I can do is sword fights with empty filler rod tubes.:)
