I've seen builds on here for an affordable cost and then in other states like California the price was tripple of the other guys! Its amazing how all over the country construction cost varies large amounts. I have been curious what others have paid for something similar to what I am building. I'm sure Im not the first thats curious to compare what people are paying. post what city and state you are in, the size of the garage, if its finished off (drywall, insualted, electrical ect. ) or just a non insulated bare non finished building, if you built it yourself or if you hired it out and what the end cost was. Post a photo if you have one.

In northern MA built a 24x25 with a 12x12 breezeway to connect to the house last year. All stick other than the foundation, fully finished, insulated, and painted. Fairly extensive electrical requirements. Bid was $89k and the final cost was closer to $100k between some extras I added and unforseen issues.

I had two bids both from contractors I trusted and they were within $500 of each other, so that's basically what it costs to build in the Boston area.

Electric is another $5,500 but that is also relocating the mast to the garage,upgrading to 200a, and replacing the main panel in the house.

Another $6500 to pour a 105ft driveway and 30ft apron for the existing attached garage.

concrete is being poured today, although I am on week #20, of a 6 week project.
the contractor messed around in December and early January, and missed his chance to pour.
So the project stalled for 2.5months of the wettest winter we the region has ever had.

Mine was built in two stages.

24x36 three bay with 8 ft ceiling built in 2003-2005, total cost of materials right around $8k. Added a 24x16 bay with 13 ft ceiling in 2009-2010, total cost of materials $6k.

So the entire garage came in at $14k. I did all the work myself so the only expenses were materials and some equipment rental. The garage is not insulated or heated but does have 100 amp electric panel. It's post framed wooden structure studded out and sided with vinyl.

If I had to spend $50k+ for a garage I'd never have been able to afford one.

I guesstimate 50% of the cost was the rough framing/roofing, and 50% of the cost was doors/windows, siding/soffits/fascia and the inside finishing touches.

Contractor cost is around 40k, final quote is expected in a few weeks. Ground breaking in June.

Mine will end up being a small fortune I’m sure. This is particularly ironic because it is a building intended to house & facilitate the restoration (or whatever) of vehicles mostly acquired at an average purchase cost of $2k or less (though to be fair that is quickly becoming “below market” and they will be worth much much more than that once more or less done. My thoughts on this mostly boiled down to time being much more valuable to me than money. I could have surely done a LOT of the work myself (I am reasonably intelligent and even have a degree in civil engineering), but i have waited a LONG time for a proper garage (life, family) and I would prefer to not spend a helluva lot more time learning how to build a garage correctly (assuming a certain number of mistakes) for what would likely be a once-in-a-lifetime gig and be able to spend more time either doing fun work on my collection of Fiats or making lifelong memories with my wife & children (likely in the reverse order, actually). So I may be in for a number approaching 200k for an architect-designed (spousal insistence) garage, footings pinned to block 4’ walls, rear 12’ solid engineered wall, rather complex low-pitch hip roof with metal, mini-split HVAC, it’s own transformer at the road & separately metered wiring, plus a good bit of incidental concrete work, breaking up a huge rock & so far hauling off 75+ tandem dump trucks of dirt (with easily 2x as much more to be hauled off, but now I have someone who is willing to pay for all the hauling), and overall about .75 acres of grading (2 acre lot) with some slope concerns & installation of an 8” or so drainage pipe (in addition to all of the backfill/footings/etc drainage & French drains...oh, and we buried a 18x38 pool in the process. We will be left with a blank slate of a back & side yard to (I hope) have fun with building a cool outdoor space to cook/eat/hang and also create a nice space for kids to play. All that is priceless.

Another Shenandoah Valley, VA build. Hired a large regional company out of PA to build a
32' x 52' x 16' shell with loft 7 years ago for $32,000.
28' long section with 2 bays and 16' ceiling
24' long section with 2 bays and 9' ceiling on first floor. Scissor trusses over this section allow for a second floor.
I hired a electrician/plumber to wire and it all and plumb 1.5 baths, kitchen sink, outside spigots. Hired a crew to do spray foam insulation that cost $9,000.
Hired a crew to drywall it. I did all the interior wall framing, additional fiberglass insulation, prep work for concrete, radiant floor heat, painting, installing metal for walls and ceiling in half the building.

I probably spent another $40,000 - $50,000 finishing it so roughly $80,000 total.

Should be making the initial deposit on Friday and starting in a week or two.

29x40 ceilings are not firmed up yet but will be in the 10-12' range. The project is a little complex which in turn impacts the price.

It is an attached garage because we have too many accessory buildings for our lot size. We are taking the roof off an existing porch and pushing it from 12x20 to 12x29 to match the depth of the garage. Going 29' on the depth of the garage & porch because we don't want to mess with the only remaining window in the kitchen. 30' would have been 6" into that window.

In floor heat in the garage and a separate circuit for the heating the porch which is being converted to a laundry room/mud room.

We don't know the exact height in the garage (probably closer to the 12' mark) because it will be determined by the slab. We will dig down but I don't want to dig down so far that the apron/driveway slopes toward the garage doors. It will be pretty flat but at least enough slope for drainage then we are limited on the height by where it ties into existing roof.

Because it is attached to the house and we live in MN we have to do full footings not slab on grade. I think they have to go down 5' or so around here. We are doing 3 garage doors. At least one will be 10 wide and 9 high. The others may be 9x9 but considering all 10x9 based on recommendations here. Just need to sit down with the building on Friday to make sure we have enough spacing. We are doing trench floor drains which will drain to daylight per code here. Siding will be LPSmart Side which we are doing for the entire house. The gutters will be 6" seamless aluminum with Valor Gutter Guards for the entire house. Also a new roof on the entire house. Chimney is also getting rebuilt. Oh the power is being upgraded from 150A service to the house to 400A service. 200A goes to the house and 200A to the new attached garage which will then feed the accessory buildings.

Entire project we are looking at about $170,000. The garage/porch work is about $100,000 of that. Oh that also includes the same siding and new roof on a 1.5 car detached garage. About $70K of this entire project is covered by insurance from hail damage.

There are things that they are not doing. The will insulate and sheetrock the common wall where the garage attaches to the house and ceiling as well as the porch. This is the min needed to close out the permit for fire code. We will be insulating and rocking the rest after I add some more electrical as well as water and internet and CATV.
