I seen a mini snap on box that caught my eye and I was searching for hours on info.. My 9 year old step son has a HF cart with cabinet on side and a 26 0r 30 gallon compressor in his room for now. My 6 year old has a 4 draw craftsman box in his room and uses it for his pjs socks etc. He does have some tools .

WHAT DOES YOUR KIDS HAVE?

It's nice to see a youngester interested in tools , but wtf he doing with a compressor next to his bed?

Obviously Daddy needed somewhere to store it. Good thinking, I would have loved to have a compressor in my bedroom when I was a kid. I would have gotten my *** whipped for firing it up in the middle of the night, too.

Well, my 2 oldest sons (10 and 8) HAD a rollaway toolbox with 2 sets of Craftsman tools in them in my shop. I started running out of room so they went from the shop to the shed at the house. I kept finding them laying around the yard so I sold them. They aren't responsible enough yet to keep track of each other's tools. When they are in the shop they use my tools and put them away properly. It is working much better than allowing them to throw their tools in their box any way they wanted. I just gave my 10yo a small engine repair course a buddy of mine took a few years ago. He aalso got the tools that went with the course, a Micrometer, a multimeter, compression tester, etc... He has to put them in his room on a high shelf so none of the other kids can get to them. I'm sure he'll want his own tools someday, but for now I just tell him he'll have all of mine someday.

Boy is 9 years old, got him this for xmas, there is a magnetic sticker inside that I had made that reads "If you need help just ask". He can pull it out when I get too involved in my own projects to pay attention to his projects.

OP, that's a MIGHTY expensive sock drawer. I hope your house is a 1 story. I'd hate to have to lug that cart down/up stairs!

Love the fact that you guys are getting your boys (& girls?) involved early. My dad was white collar. By the time I was 16, I had more tools than he did. My whole collection was from scratch.

Here’s my 11 year old son’s tool box. He’s built any impressive fishing tackle box by shopping in my stuff now it’s time for the tools. The 26” box on the left is the box my Dad bought me when I was young and now I get to pass it on to him. The more tools I buy the happier he gets as he knows the older stuff is coming his way.

EDIT: other than the random screwdrivers and such that i would find in cars at the junkyard, this is probably the only other tools i owned at that time,

Great thread, I completely missed it. Just bought the my son and daughter each a Husky 12" zip up tool bag. They're only 3 and 5 yo, so a small, soft bag is just right. I got them a multi-bit screwdriver to 'seed' the bag, and as they help out with more projects they can earn more tools.

We put together my son's bunk bed last week and they both helped. Each got to work the screw gun (while Dad held it LOL), keep account of the hardware, and hand over parts. With the proper attitude and guidance, its really surprising what younger children can do.
