I've been lurking, searched a bit and even gone through the entire 2-car garage thread and a good 12 straight pages in this sub-forum, but can't seem to find anyone who has fixed up their garage in a split level/drive under garage home. I'm in the market for a house this year and you can bet I'm looking for a garage with an attached house ;)

Split levels seem to have really deep garages, let's see what you've done to them!

Thanks,

Daniel

Dan, I have a Bi-level in a hillside with a two car garage underneath. We just recently added on to the front of the house and because of code issues, I could only extend the garage out the front. (tandem style) It was 22x26 and now with the extension the new part is wider at 24, and it's 32 deep. I'm just now working on the inside walls so I can use it. I haven't posted any pictures yet, but will soon. It's such a mess now I'd hate to show it on here till it's cleaned up a bit. Forgot to add that there is a master bedroom/ bath, and giant (wifes) closet above it. Gotta keep em happy. :)
Like you, I tried to find more info on this style garage, but there's not a lot out there. I really like it in the summer time as it stays so cool "down there".
Later, Phil

I just watched a TV prog. about a house on stilts in the South of England (I missed the beginning).
The stilts were six feet high and the guy wanted a garage, so they lifted the whole shebang another six feet up. Superb!

I have a 2 car under my house. You can see the doors in the first picture. Not only is it under my house - it's under my deck too.

The day I bought the house. You can see one bay is deeper than the other. I realized after I bought the house that my truck will fit in the long side and my wifes car will fit in the small side - if there was nothing else in the garage. :lol_hitti

So....my truck never lives in the garage and the wife's car gets to park in the 'big side' for the winter. Here are pics as it sits now. For the winter the B and the ATV's all get packed into one side and all work stops. At least that is how it is for now. (Don't mind the mess or the dog bed on the trunk lid)

There is still much to do. I have to run a few more outlets for power. I am picking up a welder in the near future, I don't have a compressor (yet), and my buddy is borrowing my hoist. It works for my needs - that is all that matters.

Here is the garage/home you might want. I just finished building it and am looking for my next build right now. This Barn/Garage/Home has 4000 sq ft garage downstairs and 3000 sq ft of finished living space upstairs.

Thanks,

Scott

This house that we bought last fall is our first with an attached garage, and I'm already thankful that I have a seperate building for a shop.
Although we love the attached garage for it's convenience, all the noise, the smells, dirt etc that drift into the house from the garage would be even worse if I was attempting to do actual work in there. Especially now that my wife works 3rd shift, a seperate building allows me to do whatever I want without disturbing the house in any way.

Yeah - but I have nothing but time. It's going to be a 'resto-mod' - just didn't decide how much 'mod' it will be at this point. If you know B's it's the 'normal' issues - floor pans and rockers - but the rest of the car is still in decent shape.

Hi. I am new to the forum but have been lurking for a long time for ideas. Finally got started on the project and the attached picture gives some hint of the progress. I will do a full photo essay when I get the time, before/after and all that. But for the time being, here are my "underslung" garages.

Man this is a topic I love. We used to have a two-car drive under that would have been big enough for three if it weren't for the supports intruding. Then when we moved to our current locale we looked at one craftsman bungalow with a under garage with HUGE potential. It was basically a mini bat cave. It had a one car entry. The entry probably went back two cars deep and then opened up into a area where two or three could have been parked diagonally. The house we did end up with has me dreaming much bigger than our wallet. The garage is a standard main level but the crawlspace is below and in front of the garage. I would love to dig that out and add an elevator!!

First time poster here, but I figured I'd start of by resurrecting an ancient thread! I'm in the process of buying my first home and obtaining my first garage. The house is a split level, and as the OP mentioned, it is rather deep since its the entire depth of the house.

Anyone have some pics to add to this thread????

My dimensions are 22x28 with two single doors.

Whachew tawlkin 'bout Willis? My GT6 has some rust, I'll see if I can dig through the miscellaneous stuff to get a picture of the rust free floorboards (because there are none left to rust).

Sounds like my old Jag before I fixed it! My son and I were driving one day shortly after I bought it and he said "dad I think I can see the ground thru the floor !"....and he was right!

Beware! "Rust free" in British car ads just means they're not charging for it! :)

Here's an outside pic of mine, I'm in the process of re-doing it and have started a thread on it here.....http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=216637&highlight=garage+reorganization
