Posters quoting Ignored User defeats purpose

An observation here and wondering if there's a option to help it along.

I'm utilizing the Ignore User feature, which is great. But that feature is made useless when another member quotes the post.

Is there a way that an ignored users post can show up quoted as 'user is ignored' or the like, instead of their actual offensive post? Or is that the inherent flaw for the feature?

Thanks

You can ignore users? Like make the postings they do disappear?

Yes. Under the 'User CP' link, in the menu on the left side there is 'Edit Ignore List'. Type in the user you want to ignore and save it.

Like I said in my OP, the ignored posters post don't display first person, but the contents do when another member quotes it.

Like all posts they have ever done? I guess it could be like my own personal ban them list. I don't know how I feel about that. I may try it. In my opinion if someone quoted it, you may want to read it so you understand the intent or direction the thread is going. What if the ignored user is the OP, do you just not look at the thread?

Try it out. You can always edit the list.

Yes, it blanks the post and in the thread box it says something like 'this user is on your ignore list'. It does bring up a little link to 'view post' if you wish.

In my experience when someone quotes it, its to react to it (which is why I'm ignoring it in the first place). And for this particular poster, the contents are of no value to the OP except to inflame.

It is just something that you will have to live with. I've only ever ignored a couple of people and they soon faded away. I'd have to ask if your ignoring people who get quoted then why are you ignoring them? I found that the people I ignored were perty much never quoted. I have a more tolerant attitude and just consider the source. What do you do when your with people in real life and they irritate you?

Don't read into things. You don't know me so don't assume you can analyze what I do online and come to a conclusion about who I really am. PM sent.

You are correct, The ignore tool is useless if someone quots them. I do see your point on this:thumbup:.....

But on the other side of the coin, If someone talks behind your back, I would want to deal with them about it. There are people on this site that do not play well with others.......

When the Text is in Quotes the feature does not recognize the Original Poster. It only recognizes the person posting, not what they are posting. It is simply taking everything that is posted within that particular Members Posting area and replacing it with (Insert Text Here). To do this the program would have to carouse the ENTIRE site and ALL of the posts made for this and it would bog the system. It is a lot easier for your settings to just delete what a few particular members have to say.

I think you are going to just have to live with it until vBulletin comes up with a fix for it. Definitely not something the Site Owners or Mods can do about it.

I don't think it is a good way to go about things though. Sometimes even the Members you don't want to hear from can have relative information to add to certain threads. Just because somebody doesn't agree with you on a certain topic does not mean that they won't be some help of some kind in the future.

After some of my recent opinions I am sure I am on some ignore lists. You just never know when somebody could provide insight on an issue though. I would never add anyone to my ignore list. If they are that out of line then the Mods should be taking care of it.

Well, none of us really know each other, but people judge us based on what we say and do on here anyway. Seems unavoidable.

Your question is a good one, but I don't think there is a workaround.

I can't ignore ANYBODY. You're lucky! :lol_hitti

If you post a thread about an "interesting topic" you usually never need to worry about jack asses.

If you post about really dumb things, social issues, items that are odd etc, most likely you need the feature.

It basically comes down to the reason that you really need the feature is due to your own posting and not the posting of others. If you browse wacky and odd topic you are asking for wacky and odd dialogue.

I think you make good points about the substance and topics of threads resulting in the types of replies.

I think you're skewed on your reasoning for why I would want to utilize the ignore feature. There are members who I don't want to read any input from, at all, regardless of the topic, my OP or not. The "Ignore User" is a tool provided by the forum exactly for this use. Besides, who's place is it to question why if I'm using the tool properly? I'm merely asking for clarification about the feature.
