Sorry, this drives me up a damn wall.

In this section for board comments alone on the first page, is a honda crank bolt question (yes, it got moved, and thank you to the person that did), a ratchet repair, and a welder question. The garage section has a tool question, a heater question, at least two light questions, and a toolbox question.

Is there some way to perhaps make posters more aware, for everybody's sake? For example (not to call anyone out), the honda crank bolt...no replies after quite a while in the board comment section. I tell him to move the thread, and he gets pages of info. This helps everybody.

I am guilty of this. I did ask my thread be moved though. Since we are on the topic, what is the proper chain of command for having an accidentally posted thread, moved?

THANK YOU! I'm glad I saw this post. I was just thinking about how retarded it is that there are no actual posts about what people are keeping in their garage on the first page of the free parking forum, thats what I want to see no posts about UAW and auto industry bailouts, shouldn't that be in an off topic forum somewhere. But your right that is not the only example there are plenty others. When I started coming to this board I was loving it, but the forums are getting filled up with junk instead of what they should be getting filled with.

It also makes it much more difficult to find things again - searching for the thread on the tool that you know you saw comments about only to then find it in the garage gallery later on totally by accident...

LoR - the Free Parking section IS the "off topic" forum.

Here's my 2 cents. To ask someone to use their judgment & post in the correct forum is not politically correct. They cannot be held responsible because they can't follow the rules (just like AIG upper management). Ask a moderator to move them you say? Do you not like your moderators? What happens when they move 4 today & miss one. The poster whose post was moved will scream & cry that they were discriminated against.

In all honesty post in an incorrect forum burns my **** just as much as a flame "this high"

I catch a few every now and then and also get some forwarded to me. I'll be honest I can't catch them all. I'd prefer for anyone that notices these threads in the wrong forum to report it and mention it needs to be moved. This way my inbox won't get hammered with PM's.

If you all think it's necessary and if someone wants to do it, post a thread in the particular section defining what kind of threads should or should not be in the forums and I will make it sticky. Sound good?

FWIW, most people learn over time. I don't think it is necessary to post a sticky in most cases. Some forums seem to get a lot of abuse tho. There are always a few users that insist on posting in the wrong place continually. Usually they violate other rules often enough to get banned eventually. As a mod on another forum I used to just move posts to the proper forum when I found them or was notified. Usually the OP would be OK with that when he got his responses. Answers were what most people wanted. Sometimes I even got a thanks from the OP!! There were a few times when I caught hell from the OP and was flamed in the forums. Some would scream about not being able to find their post. I guess they were not able to click on the reply notice links... It seemed some of them were the same ones that could not find their post if it moved off the first page either because they bookmarked the forum instead of the post. They would come on and post again with an angry flame at the mods for "deleting" the first post. Discrimination flames are part of the game. I usually just thanked the angry user for pointing out the other offending post after moving it too. It was a form of "notice" wasn't it? Sometimes a person can't win. It does take everyone working together to keep a forum like this in shape especially as it grows as this one is.

Keeping the forums clean and orderly is worth the effort tho, -otherwise one might as well just have one forum for ALL questions.

Yeah, I know all about the "on occasion" bit and that subject has been widely debated before - to the point that it was eliminated for awhile and then brought back because people wanted their off-topic section. I just don't go in there anymore because I know most of it is pretty worthless.
