Posting larger Pictures

Help,
I know this has probably been asked many times ,but can someone please explain how other posters are able to display pictures within the thread that are larger than the size limitations of 620 x 280 or 78kb. I have tried ,but am only able to link the pics from photobucket and they don't appear on the board unless clicked on.
I have followed suggestions in other posts and have not met with much success.

You need a program that will allow for "quality" adjustments. I use Photoshop, just because I have it, but there should be other image processing apps out there that will allow you to do the same thing.

With Photoshop I can make a picture any dimensions I want as well as any file size I want (within reason) by adjusting the quality of the picture (compression).

Other hosting programs allow direct linking to the image - photobucket does that thumbnail thing (I don't recall that a while ago - is that new?).

Do you have some sort of hosting as part of your ISP package? If you are on DSL or cable, you probably have something available to you. Then, it is just a matter of uploadiing the image, knowing the URL of the image and using the IMG tags.

As far as resizing the picture, the easiest one I've found is Microsoft's Image Resizer powertoy. You have some preset options and also complete custom capability in your right-click menu. Much less cumbersome the Photoshop or Fireworks - plus, you can resize 100's of images at a time. This might be obvious, but be sure to resize prior to uploading.
