Potential New box, thoughts?

Hi,

I am thinking about getting a new box, mostly for mechanics tools. For now I think I can fit most of my usual tools in a 40" lower (service kind) of tool box. And keep the specialty, not often used stuff in my old 26" sears box.

So, I was looking for,
40" (not to much bigger, small garage)
At least 1 full width draw.
Made in USA (I know, asking a lot)
Useable size draws.


What do you guys think of this one?

I have the traditional wrinkle finish machinist box at work, and really like the build quality.

Hell yeah ... Kennedy makes excellent boxes.

You can't go wrong with Kennedy. But for an extra $200 I would go with the 5300mp. It's 53 inches wide with a better drawer setup. But that's probably because I have one.

Yea, I have been thinking about that one too. I am concerned about it taking up too much space...but then again, I probably wouldn't need a top box for a very long time.

Kennedy boxes are very nice. Where are you located, there's an industrial supplier in the Chicagoland area that has great prices on some Kennedy box, I was offered the one hischj has/posted with the matching top box (in red) for $1600 tax included, I almost bought it but it's too big for me.

Once you get to that price range for a 40" box, why not look at Lista? They have one with 22" deep full-width drawers and 450 pound-per-drawer weight capacity. It weighs twice as much though, so rolling it around would be more effort. I don't have one but I've lusted after them. Link. $1600

Since some of you guys seem to know a lot about the COO of tools, what about the boxes? Tell us what brands are made where (I always assumed there was one Chinese sweat shop with a variety of stickers).

Snap-On high end = USA
Snap-On KRA = Canada
Craftsman/Waterloo = Canada, USA (not so much anymore, some), Mexico and I think Communist China now
Mac = I believe most of them are made in Canada
Matco = I believe most of them are made in Canada
Grainger Westward = China
Proto = Canada for the new ones I have seen
Harbor Freight = Communist China
Menards Masterforce = Communist China
Beach = Canada
International = some Canada, some Communist China
Cornwell = ?
Stainles junk boxes at big box stores = Communist China
Husky = Was Canada, now Communist China
Tractor supply boxes = Communist China

Lol @ Communist China. Don't you realize the Cold War is over? China's pretty far from Communism now, also. North Korea is the only truly Communist country left. Venezuela is headed that way, though...

I have never had a box shipped to me before, is this something that I can have dropped off without a forklift?

I really could get it sent here to work, but that would be a pain to then reload and unload it in my Tahoe.

Kennedy boxes are real nice I have the machinist chest and lower 2 drawer chest from 1975 ,used a lot drawers still in great shape and there are full. Nice boxes . I have c nan lower 12 drawer roller 15 years old ,ok new BB grip latch 6 draw chest 18 wide the rollers are NICE !!!! Get the grip latch if you buy cman . Good luck Eyeboltman . OR just get a Snap On MR. Big , and hide it from the little Miss For the next 40-50 years !!!

When I bought the 5300mp it was packaged on a skid, so the fork truck was needed. You may be able to have it delivered by a truck with a lift gate though. May cost more.

For that money, I'd try to find a second hand Snap-on KRL 700 series box.
