This would be to replace the centrifugal switch that controls the start capacitor in a 5 hp 23 amp single phase air compressor motor. Anyone replace a centrifugal switch with a potential relay? My switch is done and costs much more than a potential relay.
Thanks

What are you referring to when you say start switch? Do you have a pic?

Typically, air compressors are switched with either the pressure switch or a motor starter and pressure switch.

Potential relays are from the HVAC world, compressors, but compressors from another type of equipment. Air compressors don't have a start switch, they have a pressure switch and an on/off switch (and maybe a motor starter, depending on the application). Too which do you speak?

You sure could but every potential relay that I have dealt with are on Refrigeration compressors. There is a part number but it gives zero info about the specs of the relay. You might be playing a guessing game. To small burn up the relay and possibley not start the motor if the relay drops early. To big won't drop the capacitor from the start windings, burning up your capacitor and or motor.
