So I've been without an 80 gal compressor for about 2 years now. My old champion sprung a leak where the foot was welded to the tank. I wasn't particularly interested in messing with it, so I sold with full disclosure.

I've had a few (4) champions over the years and a IR that I have bought, fixed up and sold. I need to find a lighter weight hobby lol. I've always wanted a SB, so I called up a dealer here in town . For a VT-735-80 5 HP,17.3 CRM with a Baldor and mag starter, they will drop one off in my garage for $2300. Also offered to leave it for a week or so to see if I like it. If not, they either come get the compressor, no harm no foul.

They are making it really damn easy to part with my money! For those that have bought a SB, any regrets or second guessing? This will be my lifetime compressor.

Buy it before they change their minds about the price. To quote the famous poker player Sammy Farha: "ARE YOU SERIOUS?" That's a smokin' deal.

I have a 707 10hp 80gal and specs say 34.4 cfm and mine actually does 45 cfm. I would probably think or expect the 705 to do better than 17.3 also. If you do pull the trigger on it for $2300 and want it to be a lifetime purchase I’d maybe try and get them to throw in the valve tool at a good discounted price that way down the road your not having to buy it then or making one like I did for valve maintenance.

Todd, just to quash any possible "regrets" or "second thoughts", you may want to consider upgrading to their PL (pressure lubed) pump. Other than that, you're golden...SB makes a great pump.

Reply- Tony J- that is a good point I'll ask about it. The 7.5 HP was like another 1000-1200. I haven't out run a 5HP yet, so it wasn't worth the extra coin. I'm already out of my comfort zone, so anything more is really out of the question. This is splash lubed vs pressure lube. It also adds quite a bit to the cost. PL is certainly better, however this thing is pretty much like going straight to the retirement home, lol I'll add an hour meter just to see my usage, but I expect it to be low, like the noise, lol

This put in since I think late 80's I think. Maybe 1990. Actually have to replace the auto drain on it. I think this was the biggest at the time. Service it every 3 months and try to take care of regularly. Runs 6-10 hours a day for years.

I have an area about 25' around with 6 or 7 drops. I wanted to extend about 100 ft down an aisle. And had looked at options for a much smaller Saylor Beall for another area.

There's one other compressor (Can't remember the name) in a off-green color made in USA that I had heard good things about but have only seen at trade shows.

There are a few threads back in the old days here about them.

I might do an after cooler and more filtration this time (I think SB has these options now).

I got pretty into it for a while, trying to make everything as efficient as possible. Tried a lot of different things, all piping on a slope, Apollo valves, etc etc. Been so busy that I just needed the best that was always reliable. Couldn't afford option of downtime.

Champion? Very good pumps. They do make both both reed valve (economy) and disc valve (professional) models. Like SB, they offer both splash and pressure lubed models.
