So I recently decided it was time to upgrade the driveway back to the shop. 6500 sq ft. 30x30 pad in front of the shop that I'll eventually cover as well.

Wow, how many body parts did you have to sell to pay for all that at once...
Camarosrus, you don't need rebar in a driveway, looks like they properly compacted the base. It is a little concerning with all that water standing.

No the pics are over different days. It is all #8 rebar on 16" centers. There's alot of steel in it. We poured up to the garage a week before the other. Then let the rest dry out, treated it with lime and it also has plastic under it all like you would a home foundation. I think it was about 107 yds total. It's awesome. My son told the neighbors we were getting a skatepark.

How long and wide is the driveway and how many how many hours did they spend on pouring, working it, and finishing? Definitely not a 2 hour job!!!

If you put wire or rebar in concrete it still cracks and can shift but if you dont use any its guaranteed to do it. Why spend money and not do it right ?

It has a ton of expansion joints in it, they are just the new fancy metal ones. You can see some of them in the pics in front of the shop before they poured it.
HaHa, No body parts sold, paid off a bill we had for a long time so won't miss the money and momma was tired of tracking in dirt. I got it for $1.00 less than the going rate around here because te contractors a buddy which saved me about $5000 off what it wouldv'e cost. Gotta keep the wife happy right. Not sure the total distance, it varies in width from 14ft wide at the entrance to 30ft at the shop. I've got enough room next to the house that we're putting in a basketball goal by the fence and will have the full lane and high school, college, and pro three point lines. The 70+ ft of curb by the fence is my favorite part. The first part only took em about 6 hours to pour, work, and finish. The second part took a solid 10 hours.

5" thick. My drive before was a mix of river sand mixed with fly ash from a local power plant. It is a really good stable base material I've had dump trucks one it when it was wet with no problems. Even the concrete trucks when they poured the foundation for my house and shop. Not much clay where I'm at either so I shouldn't have any problems with shifting.

Dang it! I'm trying to save up for a driveway out to my shop. EVERY time I'm almost there, someone covers another corner of the planet with concrete driving the price of cement up!! Now cut it out!

Seriously, nice pour. We'll be there some day. When the race car goes out there, there'll be two black marks leading into the front entrance.

CrashTestDummy I know, the damn chinese finally laid off some and let the price come down. A year ago I looked into it and the same slab would of cost me $10,000.00 more. We got the concrete for $55 a yard, lowest it's been in probably 10 yrs. Steel's back up a little in my area but definately the time to do it. GHOSTDANCER you are exactly right. :)

 You used #8's @16" each way as temperature steel? Man, that's a LOT:wtf: of steel for 5" of concrete. I hope you got one heck of a deal on it! Rebar ain't cheap and #4's @16" would have been a lot. Oh well, in case you ever want to park an ocean liner on it, you're all set!

Yeah, we got a pretty good deal on it and I do occasionally have something big here so better safe than sorry.

Our little 100X15 driveway was last quoted at $14K. I'm sure the price hasn't come down that much in 5 months. On the plus side, though, we are getting a nice refund from the IRS, so that should put us to the point we can budget for the new driveway. Hopefully by summertime, we'll be able to get out to the shop via the driveway.

Good luck with it. Did the dirt driveway thing for 10 yrs. ***** when it's wet, ***** to mow. I am very happy we did it and it spruces the place up a bit too.
