Powder coating a drill press

For various reasons I am powder coating a Powermatic drill press I am rebuilding. So paint codes are of no use to me as they don't cross reference to powder coat colors easily.

Does anyone know what RAL color is closest to the Powermatic pea green used in the 60's

Outside of going to the RAL 6011 which is on the Euro machinery

I've got it down to 4 choices:
RAL 6017 May Green
RAL 6021 Pale Green
RAL 6024 Traffic Green
RAL 6032 Signal Green

Any one have any ideas or insight?

pick one you like and use it..as you said paint codes are of no use..

Part of the issue is that you are comparing colours on a likely uncalibrated monitor, taken with camera that didn't have the white balance set correctly with paint that was applied decades ago. I would second the idea of not overthinking it and picking either your favourite or what you think is the most close.

Just based on a quick search, I'm seeing at least four different shades on Powermatic machines.

I agree with the both of you. I usually opt for a machine grey but I sort of like that green so I'm trying to get as close as possible.

I think RAL6017 is the most pleasant, but the Powermatic equipment I've seen up close is darker and has more blue. Something like RAL6016 or 6026 would better match what I've seen.

Do you have any other Powermatic tools you are matching it too? What I've done in the past is find a small painted part on the inside and just matched that.

Just wondered how this turned out? I'm considering powder coating an old Powr-Kraft DP, but beyond this post haven't seen anyone use powder when restoring shop tools. Any thoughts on pros/cons would be very much appreciate!

My powder coat shop has a set of sample coupons on a chain so customers can see what the finished surface will look like . I belive they will also blend powders for custom colors, I have never asked them to do this, but the capability exists.

have you had things powder coated before? They cook the powder to like 400F degrees and everything has to be cleaned of the old paint and grease first. Some things I have had done they send to a chemical stripper first. Keep that in mind because there is a lot of work taking things apart, putting them back together etc.. On the other hand if one is looking for just a nice look, one can clean old paint, sand it a little, mask and paint with a custom paint without disassembling things.
