From what I understand the best way to do it is to have a chrome shop remove it for you first. That said I've blasted and shot over it before and not heard any complaints.

Thanks!

I’ve got an old guitar part I think I’m going to give a go at. It can’t hurt to try. On the parts you did, did you do any special prep? I want to try a translucent powder over the chrome to see how it looks so I’m leery of sanding it.

Your thoughts?

Thanks again and ride safe.

For good old chrome you can have it lightly blasted at low psi or sand it.

For the new ****** chrome such as the new Harley's it's basically paint thin and might even not hold up to either scuffing or the powdercoat process.

I worked in a custom powdercoat shop for a long time and half the time the pot metal on new Harley's would outgas in the oven and cause the chrome to bubble.

To the point we stopped doing chrome off HD due to the high failure rate and the owner having to buy new parts

Give it a good sand and have it outgassed first. Call your local shop and see if they will be doing a run of whatever color you want.

It ends up being alot cheaper that way to just toss on the rack with other parts vs having to do a full clean out and color change

I was doing them a solid color so I blasted the **** out of them to make sure I got good adhesion. Worst thing that can happen to you on a small part like that is you have to strip it, lay down chrome powder and reshoot it. I would give it a shot. Just clean it really well and give it a good outgassing before you coat.

Edit to add pic. It layed down really well.

Cudachick is an ace you are correct. I asked her a ton of questions when I first started and she was very helpful. Looks like I will draw from that well again.
