Powder coating powder recommendations

We switched from spray to powder coat for our pedestal sanders and would like some direction as to any recommend brands or lines of powder. All of our testing was done with HF powders which were hard to get consistent, which is a common complaint online. Our tests were mostly to prove out our equipment, not so much paint performance. Now we're moving onto what line of powders we want to use. Most of our customers tools are indoor, not exposed to UV besides welding.

I've had good luck with Prismatic Powders, They are NIC Coatings same as Cerakote, I didnt' realize it until I got my order and it was addressed to another company I used to order from... So their system has a long memory!

Anyway everything I have from them is pretty nice!

I suggest Ferro Vedoc or Cardinal. Both companies make top notch powder.

I've had great luck with powderbuythepound.com
Works really well for the home user since you can "buy it by the pound". I've never tried anything else though.

The last time I bought (years ago) I went with columbia coatings. Good prices, good shipping and they sent me a free sample book.

Don't buy huge quantity I used to powder coat for a living and had pallets of powder that gelled just from ambient temp(and sun light) thousands to just throw away.

I've sprayed tens of thousands of pounds of Tiger Drylac powder. You must have an account with them to buy their product. They have different series of powders for just about anything. Very rare to have any problems with them.

We also buy specialty colors from Prismatic Powders, since Tiger lacks in that department. Sprayed a few hundred pounds of their stuff and can't tell much difference to be honest. Have also used powder from Powder by the Pound, TCI, and Rosey's Powder Coatings as well.

I'd recommend:
1. Tiger Drylac
2. Prismatic
3. Powder by the Pound
4. TCI
5. Rosey's

Ive only really used Cardinal Powders, they are good and seem to have a far reaching network.

A good reminder, dont buy more powder then you need for the near future.
IT DOES GO BAD, I think its a ~6 month shelf life typically.

I order my colors from Powder By the Pound. Hopefully they are better than the HF stuff! At least twice the price!

The Harbor Freight Stuff is Epoxy and as long as you only want Red, Black, White, or Yellow/Orange... And you don't mind screening it because it has clumps or the fact that the BLACK is labeled as MATTE but can be GLOSSY, and I managed to get BOTH out of one bottle...

But being Epoxy it doesn't do well outside it chalks up. Like I say I have had good luck with Prismatic and it seems they know me, and their prices are a bit less than Powder Buy the Pound. PBTP DOES have a cool Phone App for color matching.

I used to order powder from ebay seller powdercoatpaints - plenty of colors and good customer service, their prices worked for me. Never had any problems with powder (I usually order 1 to 5 LBs). Mostly used their super durable wet black (awesome color, surface finish and thickness), graphite black and high temp black crinkle.

I just select my colors and Quantities and buy them... Complicated system...
You can request samples Free they will send up to 5...
select what you want and purchase... if you need SMALL quantities be sure and get some paint cans from the local store or some bottles from Eastwood or U-line because it will all come in bags...
I have had great luck with them I am sure everyone will, it is like night and day from some suppliers honestly.

First unit complete came out pretty good. This stuff is super hard to redo. We screwed up one piece and it took a lot of blasting to get rid of it.

If it was tough to blast off, that's a decent testament to your prep work! Overcuring, undercuring or failure to properly clean can all contribute to easy removal.

Yea first tried to blast it, then we had to take it down with a flap wheel, then blast it again! Now we just try to do it right the first time!

Hell I had trouble getting White Harbor Freight craptastic stuff off after a friend gave me a hand, damned near can't blast it off, Guess I should have shot the heat up on it, Guy sprayed some BLUE, while the white plate was just out of the oven and in proximity of the area he was spraying it... UGH!

My worst fear. Anything that makes airborne debris (grinding, welding, painting) stops when parts are hot.
