So I got tired of my painted metal projects getting scraped and dinged, so I decided to start powder coating. Well, I’ve got limited room in my shop/garage, so I set about building a trolly to hold my oven, a media blaster, and a fold out table to support a pop-up spray tent. It took a while to get it together, but I’m pretty happy with the end result. The irony is, I’ve got to paint it, or pay to have it powder coated, because I don’t have a big oven to bake it! Oh well, it was a fun project and it’ll make future projects all that much better. And I got to weld a bunch, which is always fun...

Superior organization. Is the oven top side clear of any rubber on the blast cab? You using a cardboard box for the powder spraying? Or something more permanent?

I skinned the whole surround of the over, including the top deck in sheet steel. You can’t see it well, but I built a trough/drain into the top deck (above the oven, below the blaster cabinet) to allow the media to dump out the back side. The blasting cabinet legs are so short that the drain is only an inch or so above the ‘deck’ the legs sit on so changing media would otherwise be a pain.

I’ve got a pop up spray tent with a 20” box fan venting off the rear that sits on the fold up table section. The tent folds up like a car window shade and lives (with the fan and filter) in the storage area below the pull out tray with all the powder bottles on it. Not perfect, but compact and useable, while containing most of the overspray.

You can see the junction boxes in the pics kind of, but I’m wiring the 220v for the oven and a gang box of 110v off the back so plugging in a 110v extension and a 220v extension gives power to everything on the station..the oven, the fan, the lights, the powder gun, etc.

Overall I wish it had a little more storage, but for being as compact as it is I can’t really complain...

Cool idea! You won't want your powders near the oven or the blast cabinet anywhere near your spray area. The dust gets everywhere, even if you smartly siliconed it before putting it together.

Just an FYI, but everything Eastwood sells can be found elsewhere (usually from the original manufacturer) at 40-60% less than they charge. They're convenient having a lot of resto stuff in one place, but it's like the WalMart of powders.

All good info. Thanks for the input! I don’t find any heat coming off the oven at all, but it’s good info!

Great job on the fabrication. It leads to a rather ironic question of how do you powdercoat the new frame for the powder coat station:)

Yeah, I agree. I contemplated paying to have it dear coated, but that seem kinda silly. I’m going to end up painting it unfortunately. I want to do a little filler work on the media drain chute out the back anyway, and that’s easier to accomplish if I’m painting it an not baking it. Oh well! :headscrat

The other issue on separating the oven is........the fumes and off gassing are quite nasty.........so they should be managed ( vented).
